County Establishes COVID-19 Business Interruption Small Business Grant

Application Period Opens 9:00 AM
Friday, June 5th!

Isle of Wight County and the Towns of Smithfield and Windsor have established the COVID-19 Business Interruption Small Business Grant Program to help businesses impacted by COVID-19 recover and reopen. This grant program is fully funded by Federal CARES Act proceeds.

This grant is one-time financial assistance for eligible, for-profit small businesses (fewer than 50 employees) to reimburse the costs of business interruption related to certain sections of Governor Northam’s Executive Order 53. Grants are available for an amount up to $2,000 per business. There is a limited amount of funds for this program, and the application period will close when funds are depleted. Grant applications will be processed and funded on a first-come, first-served basis upon submission of a complete application and all supporting documentation.

This program is administered by the Isle of Wight Economic Development Department. The grant application will be available on the COVID-19 Grant Program website beginning Friday, June 5, 2020 at 9:00 a.m.

Serendipity Meadworks LLC is a Virginia Farm Meadery in northern Isle of Wight County founded in January 2019 by a group of friends (Ed and Jane Schweiger, Gary Gosdzinski, Rob Fitts, Julia Reedy and Sam Sayampanathan). After receiving state and federal licenses, the group produced its first batch of mead, named 1634 Spring Mead, in September 2019 using honey from its own beehives.

Six more meads have been produced with a goal of producing about five strictly honey meads and some seasonal specialty meads with local fruits or spices added. The mead is available at the onsite tasting room, in local wine shops and an occasional farmers market. READ FULL ARTICLE
