1. Keep your house clean. Sweeping up dust, hair, and pet dander can make a big difference.
2. Keep plants outdoors. Indoor plants do provide benefits, such as increased oxygen in the home. However, damp soil can facilitate the growth of microorganisms and even mold, which can aggravate allergies.
3. Use an air purifier. Running an air purifier in the common areas of your home can vastly improve air quality. You can also use a dehumidifier in humid areas such as basements to prevent mold growth. Electronic air cleaners can purify all the air circulating in your home.
4. Open the windows. If the weather outside is nice, let fresh air inside the house.
5. Have your ducts cleaned. Dust and dander gather in your house’s air ducts. Having them professionally cleaned can make a big difference.
6. Replace your filters. This is important! A dirty filter is less effective at filtering out contaminates and raises your utility costs. Filters should be replaced roughly twice a year.
