As many of you will have realised, Carrington Moss has literally been a life-saver during the pandemic, with lots of people commenting that walking, cycling and horse riding in this wonderful green space has provided their mental health with a real boost at this very challenging time.  There has been a rise in the number of daily users of the Moss over the past few weeks, with many people taking the time to increase the frequency of their visits.  With this in mind, we have created this short survey so you can give us YOUR thoughts on what is important about Carrington Moss.  We’ll be using your responses in future communications with landowners and the Council, so please click on the button below and take two minutes to respond.
How Important is Carrington Moss?
Don’t forget Greater Manchester Record Centre (GMRC) has guidance about how to record your wildlife, bird and plant sightings on Carrington Moss.  Click on the button below to access their web page (we have also put this link on the events page of our website so you can keep coming back to it to record your future sightings).

Objection to Planning Application 100477/FUL/20
Ackers Farmhouse, Carrington Lane

We were disappointed to discover that this planning application had been resubmitted (with a new number).

We have objected because, although this is a small development, it will set a HUGE precedent for building residential accommodation on our precious green belt.
If you want to check out the detailed documentation for this planning application, you will find it on Trafford’s Planning Portal.  You can access the portal by clicking on the Trafford logo above (we also have a link on our Planning Applications page, mentioned below).
Take the time to read our objection - click on our logo to go to our Planning Applications page on our website.  Please support us by submitting your own response to this application.
Progressing the plans for the Carrington Relief Road (CRR)
Carrington Parish Council and Friends of Carrington Moss are working together with the aim of identifying ways to reduce the traffic driving through Carrington Village, without the destruction of our precious green belt.
We're already actively exploring a number of ideas and look forward to sharing these with you over the coming weeks, and adding your own insights too.  In the meantime, we have shared our outline proposal with the Project Manager and Communications Lead for the Carrington Relief Road Project, whom we met recently.  It was a very positive meeting and, whilst the CRR Project is in its initial stages, consultation with residents is high on the team's agenda and a public meeting is being planned for July (subject to the constraints of Covid 19).  We'll be encouraging you all to attend the consultation and to feed in your concerns and suggestions.  We'll be meeting the CRR team again towards the end of June and will, hopefully, be able to confirm the dates and venues for the consultation events, following that meeting.

Design a Kite Competition

You’ll already be aware that we are running a kite design competition.  It is open to all ages and we’re looking forward to seeing your Carrington Moss themed designs.  There will be prizes for the best designs (we’ll award the prizes at our next kite flying event), so head over to our website for more information about the competition and some guidance to help you design and build your kites.

Quick Response regarding Japanese Knotweed on UU Land
One of our members recently informed us that that they had seen Japanese Knotweed on United Utilities land on Carrington Moss.
We reported this to UU and they have responded quickly.  The UU grounds maintenance team has confirmed that, on the back of this FOCM feedback, treatment of knotweed has now been planned in for this year.  This includes a first treatment application to be undertaken in May 2020, which will aim to prevent the spread of knotweed from UU land.  There are also plans to treat giant hogweed on UU land, which will focus on the publicly accessible areas and paths across their land.
This is a great result, so do let us know if you have any concerns about any plants on the Moss.  We’ll happily investigate and, where appropriate, will raise any issues with the landowners.
And Finally
We’ll constantly review the guidance about getting together and will let you know when we are able to organise community events again but, in the meantime, do take the time to respond to our survey and to the planning application mentioned above.

Please forward our newsletter to your family, friends and neighbours and ask them to complete the survey too.  We'd be delighted to add them to our list and to hear their thoughts about the importance of Carrington Moss.

We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families well at this very difficult time and to thank you all for your continued support.

Best wishes and stay safe everyone
