Greetings and salutations friends and neighbors!

This is Pastor Doug and it’s time for our daily Check-In. Today, I’ll be sharing a story, some important information you need to know, and a passage that God’s been using in my life this week.

I had a wonderful conversation this week with a member of our church. In that conversation, I was reminded of the compassionate and gracious heart of our church. We were discussing whether we were going to open up soon and I let her know that the Elders were going to be having that discussion this week. She shared that her perspective was more on the side of less restrictions and restoring the fellowship of God’s people. I asked what she thought about us requesting people to wear masks. And her response almost brought tears to my eyes. She said that she figured there would be people in church who were more concerned about infection but desperately need the social interaction. And for their benefit, to care for them, she would happily wear a mask and maintain social distancing. In that moment I witnessed someone “consider others better than” herself. And I was grateful, again, to be a pastor of the kind of church where God’s people take seriously what it means to think of others, try and understand other perspectives, and to be patient and kind to one another.

Important Info You Need to Know
The election of our new Consistory for 2020 has finished. Thank you to everyone who voted through our website, by emailing me, and those who left phone messages. We tallied the results and it is official…the slate as presented for 2020 was elected.

Your Elder and Deacons-elect are:

  • Rajean Wolters - Elder-at-Large
  • Patrick McKenney - Missions Deacon
  • Bobbie Jo Bruursema - Hospitality Deacon
  • Carey VandenBeldt - Hospitality Deacon
  • Trevor Overweg - Facility & Finance Deacon
  • Todd Cooper - Spiritual Formation Deacon
  • Matt Wolters - Spiritual Formation Deacon

We are scheduled to have ordination and installation of these elected leaders on June 14. How or if that will happen on that date is up in the air at the moment. Your Elder leaders are prayerfully discerning the best course of action when it comes to holding on-site worship again. Please be in prayer for our Elders who are meeting tonight to discuss the church’s plans for reopening.

Scripture
1 Peter 2…"As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him—you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ."
