UPDATE
Hey Folks!

Quick reminder that our Monthly General Meeting is today from 5-6pm! And every Third Thursday, so mark your calendar if it's not on there already. =)  If you're newer to City Roots and the CLT model, this is the meeting we always encourage people to start with before jumping onto one of committees. It's also a time for us all to check in with each other and get updates on where we are with the CLT.

We'll be getting into discussions on some of what's in this month's newsletter, plus--  the new CLT houses, upcoming staff hires, grant opportunities, collaborations, our response to Covid-19, committee work, and more. Bring your ideas and a friend!

Third Thursday & Committees

Thursday, 5/21 from 5-6pm
We hold our general meeting on the Third Thursday of every month.  This is a great time to catch up on what's been going on with the CLT, other members and supporters, and to ask questions!
Join the meeting: https://utoronto.zoom.us/j/99007532744

We've also been holding committee meetings throughout the month on Thursdays from 5-6pm.

Next week we'll be hosting a "Teach Out" on Financing Affordable Housing led City Roots member Jenna Lawson who also works at Connected Communities, one of our partner organizations.

Housing Updates
City Roots just added four more houses to the Community Land Trust! That's four more affordable rentals and two more affordable homeownership opportunities!

Sneak peek from the first house on our rehab list: Check out that unpainted trim and pocket door! 😍 Looking forward to making this home shine again.

Partner Highlight

One of City Roots' key partnerships is with ROC MAPP and their Project Phoenix program. We work together to get people into affordable homes and good paying careers.

Here MAPP's executive director Kereem Berry sits down with Assemblymember Harry Bronson to talk about the program.

Member Spotlight
Shining the CLT member spotlight on Ana H Martinez! Ana was instrumental in helping us rehab our last house. She also tables at events, participates in various committees, and "always has an opinion" to share!   Thank you, Ana! (Photo by John Haege)

Big thanks to El Mensajero for covering the work we did on our last house rehab!  Check out the story here.

Thanks again to the Presbyterian Committee on the Self-Development of People for supporting our work and sharing our story!

"...[City Roots Community Land Trust] is a way to level the playing field, and take some of these real estate practices that have been used to exploit people and turns them on their head to utilize them and capitalize them for the good of the community that we hope to serve.”

Supporting Our Mission

We continue to be grateful for and humbled by the all of the donations we've received (both big and small) in support of the work of the CLT and our members! You're a big part of what makes all this possible.

Some of you have reached out to ask about setting up a recurring donation. We just added that option to our website (if you try it out, please let us know how it goes so we can work out any bugs).  You can still make a one-time donation here.
