Privacy Statement

This privacy notice applies to the APS Data Network subscription.

By signing up to the APS Data Network, the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources (the department) may collect personal information, including but not limited to first and last names, email addresses, and agency information.

The department may collect and use this information for the purpose of sending subscribers emails about networking and collaboration events, whole of government data reform projects and other data related information.
We collect personal information directly from you when you complete the online sign-up form.
 
We use Mailchimp to manage these subscriptions. Mailchimp is based in the United States, so your information may be transmitted to and stored on servers located outside Australia. In signing up to the APS Data Network, you will be taken to have consented to your personal information being used as described above. This means:
  • you consent to your personal information being collected, used, disclosed and stored as set out in the department’s Privacy Policy;
  • you consent to Mailchimp collecting, using, disclosing and storing your personal information as set out in their privacy policy
  • you agree to accept Mailchimp’s terms of use;
  • you understand and acknowledge that the service uses a Mailchimp platform. Mailchimp is located in the USA and relevant USA legislation will apply. As such, Australian Privacy Principle 8.1 contained in Schedule 1 of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) will not apply; and
  • you understand and acknowledge that you will not be able to seek redress under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Instead, you will need to seek redress under the laws of the USA
We make no representations or warranties in relation to the privacy practices of any third party, and are not responsible for the privacy policies of any third party.
 
The department’s Privacy Policy gives more detail about how the department manages personal information. It outlines how you may access your personal information the department holds and seek the correction of it. The policy also provides information on how an individual may complain about a breach of the Australian Privacy Principles and how the complaint will be dealt with.

Personal information obtained will be stored and held in accordance with the Department’s obligations under the Archives Act 1983 (Cth) and Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).”

Subscribers are able to remove their information from our mailing list at any time by following the 'unsubscribe' button located in Network emails.
