Dear Library Community,

We've got several exciting things to share with you. First, you may have looked at your calendar and realized it's already June, which means it's time for summer reading! This year will look different, but we've got fun things for all ages on this year's theme, "Imagine Your Story".

We started accepting item returns on a limited basis last week. We know you've bonded with the library books and DVDs you've been quarantined with since March, but when you're ready to part with them, we're taking returns at the back book drop on Maple Street during certain times. (See below) After you drop off your items, they'll be quarantined for 72 hours before we check things in.

And yes, finally, we are starting curbside hold pickup this week! After researching best practices around the country, we've worked out some no-contact procedures to keep patrons and staff safe. Starting today, you can call us during specific hours to request up to three items per card, and pick things up the following weekday. See below for times and more details.

So far we're not offering curbside holds or item returns at our Mapleton branch. We're working on it, but in the meantime our upriver patrons can always pick up holds or drop off returns in Florence. Thanks for your understanding.

You still have access to our wide array of digital services, including ebooks, magazines, databases, how-to videos, and more. We are happy to assist you by phone or email, and you can always make a tech appointment if you need help getting started on something.

On our website, we're continuing to update our list of COVID-19 news and resources. There's also a page of fun and interesting things to do at home.

Finally, we're currently taking applications for a new member of the Siuslaw Public Library Board of Directors. We're saying goodbye to longtime board member Mark Tilton, who has resigned his position. The person appointed to his board seat will be eligible to run for election at the end of the current term in May 2021. See below for details on applying.

Take care of yourselves, and we can't wait to see you again soon!
Imagine Your Story: Summer Reading
Get Your Packet: Monday-Thursday, 11 AM - 2 PM, Friday, 11 AM - 6 PM

This year's summer reading program looks a little different. Stop by to pick up a packet outside the library for kids, teens, or adults. Kids get a passport booklet to track their reading. Teens and adults get a book bingo card to fill out and enter in a prize drawing at the end of July. We've also got summer reading bags for all ages, while supplies last.

We're planning some virtual programs and make-and-take activities. Follow us on social media for the latest summer reading news!
Curbside Hold Pickup is Here!
Request Hours: Monday-Friday, 10 AM - 1 PM
Pickup Hours: Monday-Thursday, 11 AM - 2 PM, Friday 11 AM - 6 PM
As of today, we are taking hold requests by phone for pickup outside the library (Florence location only). You can request up to three items per patron. Call us at 541-997-3132 to get started. Generally items will be available the following weekday during specific hours. We're not doing walk-in/drive-up orders, so you'll need to call ahead to make your requests. We can't wait to talk to you!
Item Returns
Monday-Thursday, 11 AM - 2 PM
Friday, 11 AM - 6 PM

We're starting to accept your checked-out items for return at our Florence location. Stop by during return hours and drop your items in the outside bin at our back entrance off Maple Street. Dates and times are limited, because we need space to quarantine items for 72 hours before checking them in.

We are modifying this year's challenge, due to the closure. You only have to get 10 punches on your entry card for the year (not all 12), and you can decide which months to skip. See the full details and list of themes on our website: https://www.siuslawlibrary.info/reading-challenge.

June's theme is fairy tales, folk tales, and myths. Check out a few suggestions that are available through our digital library collection.
