You wanted the best new music and you got the best new music.
Mon. May 18 - You want new music? Ask our interns about new music and you'll get it: Mary liked Todrick Hall. Sam went with Thundercat. Matt touted Orville Peck. And Sami has been digging Chappell Roan and Jake Bugg.
Tue. May 19 - Steven Routledge checked in with his new music picks, which means insight, thoughtful choices and must-adds. Trivium, Dream On Dreamer, Lostage, Pokey LaFarge and the Lickerish Quartet were on his list this time around. And if that weren't enough, Harris King and Paul Trap also chip in with new music picks.
Wed. May 20 - From the north woods of Wisconsin to the eastern shores of Canada, our new music picks are bad. They're nationwide. Susan from the Northwoods of Wisconsin gave us the Claudettes and X. Captain Doug Ferrel pitched in with Dramarama, Close Lobsters and Pedaljets. And Gerald Chyzenski talked up Joel Plaskett. Bam!
Thur. May 21 - We paused yesterday to mark the the recent 70th (!) birthday of all-around genius Stevie Wonder. Mike Wagner and Nick Scalera hopped into the hosting seats to discuss the great man's run of four albums in the '70s.
Fri. May 22 - In this time of national crisis, one thing that is a salve upon our weary souls is a call from E. P. J. Or two calls. Or seven. If you haven't already, hit play now.

The last record I bought was … a reissue of Dolly Parton’s Jolene (for my daughter’s quarantined 18th because she sang the song for a recent college audition).
The first concert I saw was … the Osmonds? I’m pretty sure my parents took me to see them when we were living in Detroit MI in the late-70s.
The last concert I saw was … Mustard Plug and the Toasters at Dante’s in Portland OR.
I met a rock star … Beth Ditto from Gossip. I introduced myself to her at PDX many years ago.
I am drinking … GoodLife Brewing’s Sweet As! Pacific Ale.

Who's That Musician in That Movie?
Patrick's head is spinning. More than usual. Is it from all the movies he's consuming? Maybe! But just like on the podcast, he's going to turn his unhealthy obsession into something fun for all!

Friday New Releases: Open 'em up!
It seems like a dream now, that time you rounded up the whole gang, piled into the big blue minivan and peeled out toward the local record shop to grab a pile of Friday new releases. Well hey, the new normal still includes records, you just gotta be wise about how you get 'em. So huddle up with the whole gang, be wise and go get these new platters. While they're still hot.
Airborne Toxic Event - Hollywood Park (Rounder)
Mike Jollett’s backstory is filled with tumult, to put it mildly. In a memoir, he details his life in a cult, then in poverty and addiction. Ultimately, he found his voice, and a productive outlet for his pain, in music. This album serves as a sort-of soundtrack to that memoir, and he throws everything into it - guitar-based arena rock, new wave-style pop, tender acoustic ballads and his soul laid bare.
Tim Burgess - I Love the New Sky (Bella Union)
Before Britpop, there was the Manchester Sound. In the early ’90s, numerous bands were putting out a style of shoegaze flavored with ‘60s-style pop and psychedelia. Among the brightest bands to emerge from that scene was Charlatans UK. In his solo career, Burgess has moved on from shoegaze into other styles, including even alt-country. His fifth album is filled with sunny pop, with music (and a title) that acknowledges that brighter days lay ahead for us all.
Steve Earle and the Dukes - Ghosts of West Virginia (New West)
Nothing bright and sunny about this release. If country music is “three chords and the truth,” there may be no better truth-teller today than Earle. On this album, he explores the conflict between life and livelihood, through the stories of coal miners who risk their health to earn a good wage. Not saying he knew there would be a bigger story to tell here, but you can draw parallels where you hear them.
Indigo Girls - Look Long (Rounder)
Before the Americana boom, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers were putting out earthy acoustic folk that found its way to pop ears. But in the past couple of decades, they have seemed stuck in a niche; one fully expects their latest album to come free inside a box of granola. This album delivers more of that same style, but the melodies are strong, the music is imbued with a joyful spirit and, you know, granola is good sustenance.
Jetstream Pony - Jetstream Pony (712550)
A strong contender for a May New Music episode of Rockin’ the Suburbs, the debut album by this British band has that shoegazey magic adored by one of our hosts.
The 1975 - Notes on a Conditional Form (Dirty Hit/Interscope)
With 22 songs that veer wildly through different styles, the fourth album from Matty Healy and Co. is described as the band’s “white album.” Which is to say it’s a collection of songs without a center — the joy is in the journey, even if each listener ends up in a different place.
Jeff Rosenstock - No Dream (Polyvinyl)
We dreamed that one day Rosenstock, one of the most exciting voices in rock, would just surprise us and drop his fourth album out of the sky and into our dank homes and stuffy heads. This is no dream.
