Important dates
○ You can register to vote in an election, 30 days before the election. More in-depth information here. That means the last day to register here is July 7.
○ Last day to request an absentee ballot: July 30
○ Last day to return a completed absentee ballot: Aug. 6
○ Early voting: July 17-Aug. 1
What to bring ○ You do not need a Real ID. ○ You need identification though and that can be a driver’s license, state handgun carry permit, passport, military ID, veteran ID, TWIC card, or federal employee identification.

Absentee voting If you’re a registered voter and don’t want to vote in person because of COVID-19, you can request an absentee ballot by mail.
You can vote in-person during early voting or on election day, or you can register for an absentee ballot by mail due to COVID-19 this year.
If you would like to vote via absentee ballot, you can fill out this request form + submit it before July 30. You can submit the form by emailing + attaching the completed request.
In Hamilton County, you can email the form to Kerry Steelman at the Hamilton County election commission here.
You must submit a request for an absentee ballot now to vote in the Aug. 6 election and again to vote in the November election. The dates to submit a request for an absentee ballot are between Aug. 5 and Oct. 27.

Coronavirus

○ On June 22, the Hamilton County Health Department reported two new COVID-19-related deaths, bringing the county’s total to 28. This new report comes as the New York Times ranked Chattanooga second in the nation for the highest average COVID-19 deaths growth rate. The report said that deaths in Chattanooga double every 10.2 days. (NewsChannel 9)
○ If you had COVID-19 and have fully recovered, you could help patients who are currently fighting the infection by donating your plasma. Bodies that have fought the infection now have COVID-19 antibodies in their plasma, which provides a way for immune systems to fight the virus. Learn more here.
○ Chattanooga native Dr. Davey Smith, who heads the Division of Infectious Diseases and Global Public Health at the University of California San Diego, is leading a new clinical trial to evaluate new COVID-19 agents. The new study is called “Adapt Out COVID” and will be a larger clinical study (with sites worldwide) that evaluates new agents as they are developed. (NewsChannel 9) |

Click here for a full list of participating restaurants. 👍 ○ Southside’s Lookout Fitness has moved to new facilities on McCallie Avenue near Warner Park + reopened at the new location on Monday. The gym is now located at 1304 McCallie Avenue in a 4,000 square foot space. Memberships are $155 a month with discounts for students, teachers, and active military, fire, and police. 💪 (Chattanooga Times Free Press) ○ Tennessee-based software startup Text Request, a company that provides text messaging software as a service, recently surpassed a new annual recurring revenue milestone at $3 million despite setbacks from COVID-19. The company has solved the need for contactless engagement within the business at this time and has added new employees + service offerings.

○ The Hamilton County Schools class of 2020 received over $121 million in scholarships as a whole, while scholarship offers are still coming in for some graduating seniors. The Chattanooga High Center for Creative Arts, Ooltewah High School, East Hamilton High, Soddy Daisy High, and Signal Mountain High each earned over $10 million in scholarships this year. Way to go, grads! 💰 (Chattanoogan.com) ○ Tennessee has begun offering high school equivalency exams online while many in-person testing centers remain closed. The online testing option began on June 22 via a new online program called HiSET at Home through the ProctorU service. (WRCB)

○ Blood Assurance is in “critical need” of blood donors due to a low donor turnout + traumas in the Blood Assurance service area. Currently, Blood Assurance has less than one day’s supply of O-positive, B-positive, and B-negative. They have about a day’s supply of O-negative, A-positive, A-negative, and AB-negative red cells. (NewsChannel 9) ○ Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga is seeking volunteers to help at their Re-Stores on Main Street in Chattanooga + Apison Pike in Ooltewah. Volunteers will be scheduled to work from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. or 1-4 p.m. and will be accepting donations, sorting items, and cleaning + pricing items for sale. (Chattanoogan.com)

○ Last week, a new website went live to help visitors explore Tennessee’s South Cumberland Plateau region. The website gives in-depth information on hiking trails, waterfalls, shops, lodging, outdoor recreation, and more. You can access the new website here.
