Playtime this week

Dear <<Salutation>>

This week we have welcomed Y6 boys back into school, and whilst we wish we could have all of our boys back, we are delighted to see some semblance of normality. It has been even more heart-warming than I thought it would be to hear fun and laughter at break time and to see the concentration in lessons. It has been interesting to see teachers, teaching virtually, on smart boards too, as our collective knowledge and skills with technology continue to burgeon. I have enjoyed hearing about the boys’ efforts in other year groups too, and we couldn’t be prouder of the boys’ resilience and efforts during their time learning from home. Which reminds me to point out to you the sterling efforts of Mr Groom, Mr Rooke and all who contributed to the superb “At Home but not on Holiday” song, which was not even spoiled by the strange bouncing head!

I hope you are all well, and enjoying the chance for a little more socialising with a slightly wider network, as per the Government’s new guidelines.

‘At Home but not on Holiday’
Mr Groom and Mr Rooke would like to thank all the boys who contributed to what, we hope you’ll agree, is an absolutely superb Bedford Prep School Lockdown Song. It can now be seen via the links below.

Y5-8 Choir 2004unk Remote Recording Project
All members of the choir are asked to contribute their recordings of songs and dialogue. All details are on google classroom here (code qsqkyes). The deadline is Friday 29th June.

Weekly Music Competition and Concert (every Sunday at 5pm)
Last week the competition had a half term break but it’s back this week and there's everything to play for! The competition has been refreshed, meaning that winners of a category are now able to win the same category again. The rule (now) is that you can only win a category once per half term. Furthermore, after the next four weeks, the overall winner for each category will be announced and will receive a £15 Amazon voucher. To enter, simply film yourself playing/singing the piece you are practising and upload the video here. Alternatively, email the video to agroom@bedfordschool.org.uk  using google drive, onedrive, icloud, wetransfer or any other service you feel comfortable with. The deadline for submissions is 3pm on Friday.

Every entry will receive a merit and the winners go into a fantastic concert which is broadcast live on the Bedford School Music Facebook page every Sunday at 5pm. You can view previous concerts here. Please be aware that you don't need to have a facebook account to view. It will ask you to sign in but you can click ‘not now’.  Please tune in to support your friends and celebrate the outstanding music here at Bedford School. We look forward to hearing lots more fantastic entries. If you have any questions please contact Mr Groom.

New Cartoon and Animation Club
There is a new Cartoon and Animation club available on Google Classroom. Any boy may use this classroom to show us appropriate cartoons that they have drawn, share animations that they have made and offer tips on how to create cartoons and animations. These should be suitable for Y3 upwards to view. The code to join this classroom is dqjxsac. We look forward to seeing your posts!

Bedtime Stories
This week we have two more stories for you to share. The first read by Mr Maitland and the second read by the Chaplain.

School Shop Update
Following the current Government guidelines, the onsite school shop remains closed. When the shop is allowed to reopen, hopefully 15th June, it has been agreed that the shop will be relocated to No Limitz, 25 Shuttleworth Road, Bedford, MK41 0HS for the remainder of this term and the summer holidays. The main reason for this is to help minimise the risk to both customers and staff, as it will be significantly easier to maintain social distancing. Online ordering remains possible with either click & collect from No Limitz or you can have your order delivered. To place an order or for more information about the school shop within No Limitz please visit www.bedfordschoolshop.co.uk or ring No Limitz on 01234 350720.

Compline, Thursday Evenings
The Chaplain invites you to join him for a short, meditative service of night prayer on Thursdays at 9pm. There will be 20 mins of prayer and reflection in the style and tradition of Christian monasteries. There is no need to say or do anything other than let the words and silence flow over you. To take part, please click on the link here
