Welcome to the June 2020 Hills Shire Library Service e-newsletter.
The Hills Shire Libraries have begun a staged approach to easing restrictions enforced by the COVID-19 pandemic. We will be continuing to provide a full range of online services to our members and visitors, while beginning a staged approach to offering modified physical services in our libraries.

The Hills Shire Libraries at Castle Hill and Rouse Hill have reopened for borrowing and returns. Please ensure you have read the Conditions of Entry and our Frequently Asked Questions before planning your trip to the library.

It's even easier to request items for pick-up from Castle Hill or Rouse Hill. Time poor? Let our librarians select a pack of 10 for you. Once your request is made we'll send you an email to let you know when your item is ready for collection.

HERB GARDENING

This is a virtual event hosted online via Zoom.

For millennia herbs were used as food seasoning, for pest control and the only medicine available to mankind. Join experienced sustainability educator, Margaret Mossakowska of Moss House, as she presents a virtual workshop on edible and healing herbs that can easily be grown in Sydney. Learn tips for herbal garden design and how to use herbs to reduce pest damage in your garden.

There's still a lot happening in the wonderful world of literature. 
  • Everyone has a story to tell and the State Library of NSW wants yours. The Diary Files is an online community diary that collects the stories, poems, lyrics, thoughts and reflections of the people of NSW and beyond during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The Davitt Awards longlist has been announced! These awards are presented annually by the Sisters in Crime Australia association.

LITTLE BOOKWORMS

  • Have you tried Story Box? Imagine the best stories being read aloud to you by a stellar cast of storytellers.  Give it a go!
     
  • Author and illustrator Aura Parker has created fun printables based on her stunning picture books.

RETURN CHUTES ARE OPEN

Return facilities at Castle Hill and Rouse Hill are now open even longer.
Monday to Wednesday and Friday : 9.30am - 5pm 
Thursday: 9.30am - 7pm 
Saturday 9.30am - 1pm 

Please observe social distancing while using the returns chutes.
Items that have been returned will be placed in quarantine.
