This unique online performance event has been created specifically for Berlin Werkstatt Literatur using elements from my ongoing large-scale project Sonic Atlas.

The subtle, immersive videoed performance of slow landscapes and filmed readings in SONOSCURA is organised into 5 distinct, contemplative pieces and has been created in response to the global confinement of Spring 2020 and current destabilisation.

Featuring all new material, text cycles and the shadows of many different voices, Jamie Hamilton's exciting sound patterning is coextensive with the solo voice and is juxtaposed with abstract slow landscapes filmed by Andrew Delaney. SONOSCURA also reframes in a dynamic edited form the 3-hour long writing event curated by Caroline Bergvall between Vahni Capildeo, Will Harris, Nisha Ramayya and Leo Boix.

The event will last for about 35 minutes and is in English with a separate PDF for some German translation.

As a long-standing cycle of performances, Sonic Atlas as a whole wishes to favour awareness of the fundamental and enriching coexistence, even coextension of languages. My core aim is to imbue audiences with a multilingual universe and increase through exchange and enjoyment, an understanding of the realities and histories behind linguistic diversity. This is relevant at a time when borders and cultural identity are being redefined across Europe, and the awareness of its varied bilingual realities is even more necessary.

Artistic Team for SONOSCURA
