Emma Baker(UK) - Artist in Residence and current workshop manager has been keeping S12 going the last couple of months, while we wait for the Canadian Tim Belliveau to take over as the workshop manager, as soon as the travel ban has been lifted.
Baker received her BA from Sunderland University in 2014 and has since worked in glass studios throughout Europe. In 2019 she became one of two Associate Artists at North Lands Creative, a two-year programme supporting & developing the practice of glass artists. She has been awarded residencies at Berlin Glas, The Glass Factory, S12 Bergen and North Lands Creative. Her work is held in public & private collections and has been shown across the UK & Ireland. She has also been a teaching assistant at Corning Museum of Glass, Bild-Werk Frauenau and North Lands Creative.
In S12 Baker has, in addition to running the workshop, been continuing her work on the “Carragh” series, which are created by bringing the processes of blown glass and kiln forming together. The work shares visual similarities with the rock stacks and strata on the Caithness coast: The harsh edges, colouration and defined layers.
