Reproductive assistance research

Disabled people are being invite to take part in a Marsden-funded project exploring new family formation and assisted human reproduction:

Do you identify as disabled and have experiences of IVF, IUI or DI?

Do you have a story to share about using assisted reproductive technologies like IVF, surrogacy, egg freezing, sperm or egg donation? We would like to hear it!

We are conducting a project on the ways in which family formation is changing and would like to know how being disabled shapes access to these new forms of family creation. We are particularly interested in any challenges or difficulties you experienced as part of your reproductive journey, including not having children.

If you are interested in sharing your story, either in a one-to-one discussion, within a group or with members of your family, please contact us!

You can email the co-Principal Investigator for the project, Associate Professor Rhonda Shaw, at: rhonda.shaw@vuw.ac.nz
(or) the Disability Studies researcher for the project, Henrietta Bollinger at: ettaink@gmail.com

This project aims to explore assisted reproduction and new family formation. Your participation will support this research to ensure that all people in New Zealand have equal access to reproductive technologies and are able to create families if they choose.

The research has been approved by the Victoria University of Wellington Human Ethics Committee.

Call for talent - Conversations With My Immigrant Parents podcast

Conversations With My Immigrant Parents is an RNZ podcast series where immigrant whānau have conversations they normally wouldn’t, crossing barriers of language, generation, and expectation.

The producers recently got the greenlight for a second series - so they are looking for more immigrant whānau to take part.

They would particularly love to hear from disabled people and their whānau - so if you are a migrant and disabled, or have a disabled family member, please think about taking part!

To find out more about the podcast series and to register your interest for your family to take part go to the Radio New Zealand website.
