Norwood CC Newsletter - June 2020

Any news yet?

After our abrupt finish to last season and the disrupted football season, there have been a lot of questions about when the cricket season might start.
While everything is subject to change, the deal between Cricket Victoria and AFL Victoria suggests the cricket season would start in November at the earliest.

There have been some guidelines sent to us about how games and training should proceed. We'll pass those on as we get closer to training.

So when is training starting?

Both senior and junior teams will be training at Saxons on Tuesday nights starting Tuesday 28th July.
Juniors 4:30pm - 6pm
Seniors 6pm - 7pm

What else is in this update:
  • new committee
  • new coaching team
  • player welcomes
  • Wil Parker
  • new website
  • online merchandise store

  • Jason Cant - Assistant Coach

  • Nathan Lester - Junior  Head Coach

New additions

We're delighted to welcome a number of talented young cricketers to Norwood CC. Nathan Lester, Grant McInerney, Baylin Fittolani and Jordan Osborn join the vikings for the 2020/21 season.

Natty played all his Junior cricket at Norwood CC, where he then went on to play his senior cricket at Balwyn CC, Fitzroy Doncaster CC, Ringwood CC and also recently enjoyed a season in England averaging 43 with the bat. Natty is taking on the role of ‘junior head coach’ where he will actively oversee the junior program.

Nathan "Natty" Lester

Grant is a left arm quick who will add to an already very strong bowling attack. Please welcome Grant and partner Rachel to the viking family.

Baylin spent last year playing in the under 16s who tied the premiership, scoring 230 runs and averaging 15 with the ball. Baylin is an easy on the eye batsman as well as being a reliable option with the ball.

Jordan is also a talented allrounder; a positive, free-scoring batsman and dangerous leggie who is passionate about continuing to improve his game.

We're sure all players will be made to feel very welcome at their first pre-season training session.

And in great news for our girls, Katelyn Tucker has joined the club to coach the under 15 girls. This is twice as exciting as it will be the first time we have a under 15 girls team. Katelyn is playing cricket at Ringwood CC in their women's team and had a passion for education and encouraging girls to play sport.

Further junior coach announcements will be made at a later date.

Wil Parker Watch

Exciting week for the youngster signing a two year contract with Cricket Victoria.
This comes after speculation Wil would be a top 20 pick in the AFL draft.

Best of luck Wil.
