Zoom, Zoom, Zoom...

We've been to the Moon, isolation feels like it!

Who knew Zoom or Teams would prove such an invaluable method of communication for both online meetings at work and home life, catching up or quizzing, to help ease the feeling of isolation.

It's good to reflect on how we have ensured continuity at Autonomy by working from home, to produce eLearning courses, modules, apps, games, animations and video for our clients, without pressing 'pause'.

Of course, just like you, some of our team have been furloughed but have taken the opportunity to do some learning and development for themselves.

We've all felt uneasy but accepted and embraced opportunities for new ways of working tantamount to our new normal.

⬆️   Stuart's daughter Isobel has kept him in the style he was accustomed to at the office (apart from the random customer zoom meeting interruptions).
Lockdown Stargazing 💫
Staring up into the clear night sky during the second day of Lockdown, reflecting on the environment impact, with no planes and reduced pollution, noticing the distant moon.

A quick Google search discovered on March 24th, the day after Lockdown the Micro New Moon was at its furthest point from earth. I wondered for a moment, if the moon had gone into isolation too after the Spring Equinox!

April brought the Pink Moon, the second Super Moon, I also saw my first shooting star in the Lyrid Meteor Shower.  The bright lights continued, shooting across the sky, but this time created by the satellite network of Elon Musk's Starlink.
Marvelling at the sky, the latest deployment took the number of satellites to c300, with Musk's bid to improve global internet coverage.

Musk's bigger plans may have halted like everyone else, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which brings us all back down to earth with a thump (apart from Musk, with his apparent child naming effort X Æ A-12)!
Life Cycle of a Crisis

Whilst updating our Linkedin, I stumbled upon this illustration from McKinsey & Company visualising the life cycle of a crisis and how our employees maybe feeling.

Looking back now, this resonated
as it explained exactly how the team at Autonomy were feeling, how resilient they were and how they adapted, staying focussed in this time of crisis.

Lockdowns similarity to Maslow?

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is a motivational theory that has five levels of human needs.

Each need has to be satisfied, to reach the top of the pyramid.  This also draws an interesting parallel with McKinsey thinking.

Even we did it!   Panicking, panic buying, yes... toilet roll, pasta to fulfil our basic needs, to safety hand sanitiser and masks.

Our belonging, setting up our home office (Emily's greatest ironing board invention) helped along by Zoom or Teams – for work and social (honestly, if I see another quiz or zoom background...!)

To self-esteem and self-actualisation, what can I learn or do?  Sales of the good old push bike escalated. We all became Hairdressers (Tom, Stuart and Kevin), 43 workouts with Joe Wicks (Jude, Sarah-Jane), Teachers (Jude, Emily and Kevin), Bakers (Stuart - no more banana cake please!) Tick Tok! (enough said), Tiger King (yes, we all admit it!)   We've all looked around every virtual museum possible, visited the virtual zoo (did you know Panda's were shy?)

Then...

Captain Tom!   He seized the opportunity, with his determination and wisdom he skipped a few tiers of the hierarchy making us all sit-up and think.  He got the nation behind him, supporting the NHS to raise an incredible £33M and pending Knighthood 😊 Wow!

Lockdown Baby!

Emily, our Head of Client Services has been working from home, which we think she was secretly pleased about, check out those socks (eek)!

Good luck Emily, from all of us, we'll see you back at work next Year, enjoy those extra couple of weeks at home before the arrival of your new little one!
