I am tired and exhausted

The darkest places in hell are reserved for those who maintain their neutrality in times of moral crisis. - Dante Alighieri

After George Floyd was sadistically murdered by a police officer on camera, it sparked an uprising in Minneapolis that has now spread all over the world. I believe that this is the uprising that will bring about real change.

When the protests started I had the mindset of "oh not this again I'm so fed up and tired". Like me, many black people are fed up and exhausted by the oppression, marginalization, and murder of black lives. So even if we are tired, keeping quiet is a luxury we cannot afford. Staying silent is not an option. Standing on the sidelines is not an option.

If you don't speak up or remain neutral because you think it won't make any difference, think again. Protests like this are what have led to change in the past. In 1963, the march for civil rights led to The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. It was also in this march that Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech.

So I kindly ask you to join your voice with people around the world who want change. Silence, neutrality, and moral muteness is dangerous and only helps the oppressors. We must speak up for what is right so that our collective voice becomes louder than the voice of the oppressor.

If you can't go out to protest there are many other ways you can participate. Donate to any of the funds listed below and encourage your network on social media to donate too. Use your platform to spread the message that black lives matter and police brutality against black people must stop. No more waiting and no more silence. Now is the time to act.

Below are funds you can donate to:

The Bail Project
Restorative Justice Initiative
George Floyd's Family fund
Black Visions Collective
