June Word of The Month
June’s word of the month is Faith.
Entering Parliament at the young age of 21, William Wilberforce probably did not imagine the road of faith God was calling him to. After just a few years of being in Parliament, Wilberforce was asked to join the abolitionist movement and lead the reform in Parliament. With reluctance, he accepted the position, ushering in a long journey that would last for the remainder of his life.
When Wilberforce had a strong chance of becoming prime minister of one of the most powerful empires of its day, he had a choice to make: continue pursuing the abolitionist movement or become arguably the most powerful man in the world. This was not an easy choice, for Wilberforce could quickly justify the powerful position by using it as a platform for reform. However, Wilberforce had a strong faith that God called him to remain in his position. Speaking to these convictions, Wilberforce wrote, “God Almighty has set before me two great objects, the suppression of the slave trade and the reformation of manners.”
