June 2020

A Message from our President:

It is hard to know what words to use in these moments in our cities and our country. And we all react in different ways and feel a wide range of emotions.

I want to make a personal note and reach out to you all during this time. Know that I support you and I’m here if you need an ear or some to talk to.

I think Martin Luther King Jr. said it best  “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

All my best,
Emily M. Getsay

Board Members Inquiry:
We are searching for dynamic leaders who are interested in collaborating with dedicated WCAGA board members to develop professional development programs and exhibition opportunities for our members. Our goal is to be a support network for Femme- and non-binary people working in the visual arts.
Founded in 1972, The Women’s Caucus for Art (WCA) is a national non-profit membership organization based in New York City that supports women artists, art historians, students, educators and museum professionals. We work to recognize the contributions of Women in the visual arts professions and we advocate for equity in the arts for all.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the WCAGA Board or have questions about the positions listed above please email our President Emily M. Getsay at getsay.emily@gmail.com.

Basic Board Descriptions:  Direct any questions to  Current President Emily M. Getsay  (getsay.emily@gmail.com) and they can answer questions and fill in more information as needed.

The President: The president is the top WCAGA membership ambassador and spokesperson, both to current members as well as in our community.  Being president is both an honor as well as being recognized  for being an important and well respected  leader of the arts in the metro Atlanta area and beyond. In general, the WCAGA president helps to set the year’s agenda, and with the board’s input, to prioritize what are the most important goals and objectives to be fulfilled during her term of office.
To preside over all meetings of the Executive Board, and regular Board meetings
To call special meetings when appropriate
To communicate with and support members in their efforts
To hold office for a term of 2 years

The Vice President/President Elect: This is a position that often can be a quiet one, without as much day to day responsibilities – but can become more active if or when the president in unable to fulfill her duties.  When the President’s term of office ends, the Vice-President steps up in that position. Being VP is a great opportunity for strong leadership development.
To attend  Executive Board and Board meetings
To fulfill the President duties if needed.

CELEBRATING MIKE REHG
Those of you who have been in our WCAGA chapter for any length of time know Barbara Rehg. (On the right is a photograph of Barb and her husband Mike)
Barb has given much of her time and energy to us over the years, serving as Secretary, Vice President, President, and Exhibits Chair as well as starting our long running Drawing Marathon project and opening her studio to us for meetings, Art Shares, Drawing Marathons and even exhibitions.
Barb’s husband Mike died April 13 of Covid-19 at Emory Hospital. Friends and Family have been in shock. WCAGA extends our sympathy to Barb and their two daughters, Kate and Jen.
It is a terrible loss during a time unlike any a that we have known.
I knew Mike as a kind and generous man with an adventurous spirit and an abiding love for his family. As such, Mike supported our chapter in many ways including financially over the last 20 years.
It is hard to remember all he did for us there was so much! It may have started with the beautiful “Gender in Motion” catalogue his printing company produced for the National Juried Exhibition we mounted as part of the 2005 National WCA Conference in we organized in Atlanta.
More recently he sponsored a week long Drawing Marathon in a space we sublet in the TULA building near MOCA-GA. A generous donation also enabled us to sent one of our artist members to the opening of a WCA exhibit in China, not a small feat!
When asked why Mike was so supportive of a feminist organization, Barb stated that he had a wife and two daughters, so of course he was on the side of women!
We will miss him and remember him with love.
