The Pioneer News is your weekly update from the Pinetree PTA
2019-20 Pinetree Community School Yearbook Update
The 2019-20 Pinetree Yearbook was completed on time by the PTA and submitted to Lifetouch back in April.  Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Lifetouch is experiencing extreme delays and as of this morning, we still do not have an ETA.  We do not believe the yearbooks will be here in time for the report card and AR award distribution next week taking place at the school.  Once we get shipment information and a confirmed delivery date, we will reach out to parents.  We are so deeply saddened by this and we apologize for the inconvenience.  Stay tuned...
Facebook Profile Pic Frames
The Pinetree PTA thought it would be fun to help everyone show their Pinetree Pride on Facebook by introducing Facebook Profile Pic Frames for you to add to your existing profile picture.  We created two general ones and two to show your support of our Sixth Graders this year that are moving on from Pinetree to Sierra Vista this year.  You can even setup up the frames to be active for a certain period of time at which Facebook will change your picture back to your existing Facebook profile picture automatically.  There are two ways you can add them, one is visit our Pinetree PTA Facebook Page (link at button below) and you can click the "Try It" button under the frame you like as they are each posted on our wall.  Second option is...

How do I find Pinetree's profile pic frames on Facebook?
Go to your profile on the Facebook app and tap "Edit" on your profile picture. Then tap "Add Frame".  Search Pinetree and you'll see them all listed.  Click the one you would like and choose apply.

2019-20 Pinetree PTA Honorary Service Awards
Each year, the Pinetree PTA has the honor of selecting those who go above and beyond for not only the Pinetree PTA, but our school and our Pioneers with a PTA Honorary Service Award.  Normally we honor them after our May PTA Meeting in a beautiful evening where friends and family are invited.  Because we are still not allowed to gather, the Pinetree PTA has chosen to postpone this year's awards evening until early next school year when hopefully we can gather.  We look forward to all joining us then to celebrate them.  But, we still want to share who was chosen as our honorees:

This year, we'll be honoring two Pinetree teachers who will be retiring from many years of dedication to our Pinetree Students, one awesome PTA Volunteer whose kiddo is her last year at Pinetree, two Pinetree staff members who went above and beyond this year and an Office Manager who's support of the Pinetree PTA and the school is always so appreciated.

Ginny Wells – Honorary Service Award

For her seven years of dedication to the Pinetree PTA in too many positions to count including two years as Madam President

Kristie Cooper – Very Special Person Award

Donna Burkman – Outstanding Teacher Award

Apryl Coules-Reaber – Honorary Service Award

Liz Bouciegues – Very Special Person Award

Not only being a great Pinetree staff member but also for her countless hours of dedication and support to the Tick Fire Families this school year including using her business space to be a donation center for the families

And finally last but not least – a special thank you tribute to Deb Stilson for her five incredible years as Principal of Pinetree Community School

Sulphur Springs School District Survey About Distant Learning and 2020-21 School Year

Please complete requested survey by Friday, June 5th

Excerpt from District Weekly Update (full letter further below in this newsletter):

The District is working with parents and staff on forming Task Forces to assist with the preparation to re-open our schools in the fall. The first Task Force that met this week focused on looking at different instructional models to educate our students in an environment where health and safety are the top priority.

Please know, in this ever-changing environment, we are committed to planning and delivering high quality instruction to our students in the coming school year. Because it is not possible to predict what the current public health situation will be in August, the District is planning for three instructional models. With these models, we are confident that we will be in a position to provide your child with an excellent education regardless of what restrictions and orders are in place at the time.

The three models include: Full return, Blended (partial) Return, Virtual Classroom Instruction.

One of the three models, Full Return, Blended, or Virtual Classroom Instruction, will be implemented based on public health orders in place in August 2020.

The Full return model would be implemented if there are no more restrictions in place. This is effectively returning to school as normal.

Blended Return Model would be implemented if public health restricts the number of students that can be allowed on campus at one time. In this model students would learn at school for part of the week, and learn at home in our online platform the remainder of the week.

Virtual Classroom Instruction would be implemented if public health restricts students from returning physically to campuses. This model will involve students being actively engaged with their classroom teacher on a daily basis in a virtual setting.

Finally, regardless of the restrictions in place in August 2020, we want our families aware that we will have an option of Online Home Study Program. This option is for families that choose to keep their children at home, even if restrictions are lifted. This option would provide each family access to a credentialed teacher who would be available for support each school day, meet with parents and students weekly, guide parents in working with their student at home, oversee the academic progress of students, and coordinate with parents on each student’s individual learning needs. With this option, students in this program will still have access to school library books and field trips on the school campus.

As we continue to plan for the start of the 2020-21 school year, please know with these models in place, we are confident your children’s educational needs will be met so they can continue to thrive.

In order for the District to receive important information from our families, a survey asking for feedback on the models is being sent out, and we are asking if you can complete it by Friday, June 5th. Families can access the survey by clicking on the button below and/or going to the District website. Again, thank you for taking the time to take this short survey. Your input is greatly appreciated as we prepare to physically re-open our schools in the fall.

I will continue to keep you updated regarding the Task Forces and restrictions on schools from Department of Public Health. Thank you again for your partnership and commitment to our amazing students. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Superintendent Updates as of 5/22/2020

Dear Sulphur Springs Families,

This is Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi, Superintendent, with your Friday Update, May 22, 2020. I want to take a moment and thank our families, teachers, support staff, and Administrators for the amazing support and hard work that they are doing to assist our children with their learning, and for making sure that they are continuing to be our number one priority.

The District is working with parents and staff on forming Task Forces to assist with the preparation to re-open our schools in the fall. New Principal at Pinetree for Next School Year

NOTICE FROM THE DISTRICT:

Dear Pinetree Families,

I am calling to inform you that Pinetree’s Principal Ms. Deb Stilson will be moving out of the area at the end of the school year, and therefore will not be returning as principal for the 2020-2021 school year.

Your child’s education and well-being are our most important priorities. One of our goals is to maintain consistency for the students and staff at Pinetree Community School through this transition as the community welcomes a new principal for the 2020-2021 school year. With this in mind, the selection process to establish a new principal for Pinetree Community School has begun.  We look forward to the completion of the hiring process before the end of the school year, and Ms. Stilson will be available to assist the new Principal to ensure a smooth transition.

The District is asking for you to complete a survey regarding what you feel are the needs for Pinetree Community School. Please go to Pinetree School’s website where you will find the link.

We thank you for your support as we work through the transition process.

Sincerely,

Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi

Superintendent

Box Tops to Support Pinetree PTA
During this time, you can still support the Pinetree PTA by continuing to scan your store receipts on the official box tops app and contributing them to Pinetree Community School.  We greatly appreciate your support.

There are some BIG changes happening to one of the easiest ways to raise money for Pinetree School. For every Box Top that is turned in, Pinetree earns 10 cents. They add up, and already this year, we have collected $765 for our students. However, how you collect Box Tops has changed this yearit has gone digital!

Box Tops is slowly transitioning to no longer printing Box Tops on the packaging of products, that is why it is so important to download the app and start scanning. However, until then, please keep clipping and sending any Box Tops that you may find. We will be earning money for Pinetree both ways.  We suggest anytime you go food shopping, go ahead and scan that receipt in the app.  The app will look at each of the items and do the work for you to see if any of the items qualify for a box top and automatically contribute it to Pinetree.  Please note you have to scan the receipt within 14 days of the purchase.

Check out the video below for more information on this change:
See how easy it is to earn for your school with the NEW Box Tops App! Watch this how-to video to for a simple, step-by-step explanation of how it works—then give it a try yourself.
Amazon Smile
During this difficult time, it's becoming more common to make online purchases especially through vendors like Amazon.  Please consider using Amazon Smile to support Pinetree Community School while making that purchase.  We greatly appreciate it.

Do you shop through Amazon?  If so, do it through AmazonSmile and Amazon will donate a percentage of every purchase to Pinetree PTA. AmazonSmile is the same Amazon you know. Same products, same prices, same service. Instead of going directly to the amazon.com url when shopping, book mark https://smile.amazon.com and choose one time that you want to support "Pinetree Community School PTA" and everytime you shop through that link going forward, you're supporting your child's school.  It's as easy as that!

Also, Good news! AmazonSmile is now available in the Amazon Shopping App to all AmazonSmile customers using supported Android devices.

If you are an AmazonSmile customer, you can now support Pinetree Community Elementary PTA in the Amazon shopping app on your Android device! Simply follow these instructions to turn on AmazonSmile and start generating donations.
  1. If you have the latest version of the Amazon Shopping App, open the App on your Android device.
  2. View Settings and select AmazonSmile.
  3. Follow the in-App instructions to complete the process.
If you do not have the latest version of the Amazon Shopping App, update your App. Click here for instructions.

AmazonSmile is not currently available for iOS users. We will notify everyone when it becomes available.
