Hi-Viz
A reminder that students need to wear their hi-viz vest to and from school each day.
We are currently checking our lists to establish who hasn't yet been issued with a hi-viz vest. If your child has never been issued with one, they may appear at home wearing one next week. Hi-viz vests are to be worn each day.
After next week, if your child has not yet received a hi-viz vest, or has lost theirs, please contact the Student Centre. Families are not charged for the first school-issued vest but will be charged for replacements.
Important Changes to NCEA
NZQA will implement three key changes for2020:
-
Students working towards an NCEA can gain additional credits, based on the number of credits they achieve during the 2020 school year. For every 5 credits a student achieves towards their NCEA through internal or external assessment, they can be awarded an additional 1credit. Students at NCEA Level 1 are eligible for up to a maximum of 10 additional credits while those at Levels 2 and 3 are eligible for up to a maximum of 8 additional credits. These will be known as Learning Recognition (LR) credits.
-
Students will be awarded a certificate endorsement if they achieve 46 credits at Merit or Excellence level, rather than the usual 50. Students achieving 12 credits at Merit or Excellence level in a course – rather than 14 –will be awarded a course endorsement.
-
Current UE requirements have been reduced to 12 credits in three UE-approved subjects, from 14 credits in three approved subjects. Students still need to attain NCEA Level 3 and meet the literacy and numeracy requirement to be awarded University Entrance.
If you have questions about these changes please contact Janet lean, Principal's Nominee (in charge of NCEA).
Itinerant Music Classes
Itinerant Music Classes start again on Monday (8th June). Please make sure that your child has their instrument with them at school and remind them that it is important to be punctual to their lessons.
Health Survey
Please read our proposed Health Plan, then provide us with feedback via the online survey. Every Board of Trustees in New Zealand must consult with their community on the development of the school's Health Curriculum every two years, your views and opinions are important to us.
The survey can be found here: catlins.school.nz/news/health-consultation-2020
Teachers are human too!
Thank you to our community for staying so connected during the lockdown period, your participation has been invaluable in the continued progress of our learners.
During the lockdown, the lines between school and home have become blurred for all of us. Now that we are back to a normal routine, we're trying to maintain separation between work and home for the wellbeing of our staff.
Before contacting us out of hours, over a weekend or in a holiday period, consider whether you can hold off until the working week.
The best way to contact school is by calling us (03 415 8036) or emailing (learn@catlins.school.nz) us to make an appointment, have a chat, solve a problem, leave an absence, change the bus arrangements and anything else...
Please don't call staff on work matters at their homes, try to have a parent conference in the middle of a public place, send messages through their personal social media or bring up private matters with their husband/wife/child.
We love and appreciate our community, but please remember - teachers are humans too.
Lost Property
Once again, we have an abundance of Lost Property left at school that needs to be collected. This has been accumulating since the start of the year when students were attending camps etc. There is a table at the student centre, please ask your child to make time to sort through and take away whatever belongs to them.
If items go unclaimed at the end of this term, they will be disposed of.
