Church at home

Messages from the GSMA team!

Dear <<First Name>>,

Bible passage: Acts 2:1-36 (same story as last week, but this week we're concentrating on Peter, and how God changed him)

The big aim: When we are trusting in Jesus, God's Spirit lives in us, and is changing us. He helps us tell others about Jesus.

Why not watch the video below with your children to remind yourselves of who Peter was.

A message from Jane about Acts

Nicola has let us into her home to see how she would tell the story to her lively pair! It's worth watching to see that even though it's a bit chaotic, she keeps going.
The story of how God changed Peter.
My encouragement to parents of young children: Keep going. It is worth it. We have a wonderful Saviour that we want our children to know.

Talk about it

Choose a few questions suitable for your child. Chat about them at lunchtime and over the following week:

  • how did Peter let Jesus down? Luke 22:54-62. Why was this surprising?
  • in what ways do you sometimes let Jesus down? do you sometimes pretend you don't know Jesus and try and fit in with your friends? When Jesus rose from the dead He met with Peter and showed him that he still loved him, and he even gave him a job to do.
  • what gift did Jesus give Peter? Acts 1:4-5
The Holy Spirit helped Peter to tell the crowds about Jesus. What important things did he tell them?
  • Acts 2:23 - Jesus ...........
  • Acts 2:24 - Jesus ...........
  • Acts 2:33 - Jesus is now reigning in ................
The Holy Spirit helped the people to understand and to want to believe. They said, 'what shall we do?'
  • Look up Acts 2:38 to see Peter's reply.
  • What difference does it make knowing that when we're trusting in Jesus we have the Holy Spirit living in us?

Activities for a variety of ages

Last week the McClures made a fabulous Pentecost scene (they have a LOT of Lego figures!). If you haven't done one yet why not re-enact the story with whatever you've got.
  • we're going to be in the book of Acts for quite a few weeks. Why not make a poster to go on your wall so that you can write/draw what you're learning each week a little bit like mine.
  • Come up with a way of learning Acts 1v8 (talk about what the verse means, you might need to explain what a witness is)
  • Food related for those of you that like the food activities! Make or buy some gingerbread men biscuits, or just some round biscuits and draw faces on them. Put some flames on their heads using red icing or strawberry laces. Or cut out a person-shaped bread and dip the head in ketchup!

Pray about it

Dear God, thank you for changing Peter by the power of your Holy Spirit, from someone who was afraid to let people know that he was Jesus’ friend, into someone who wanted people to know that he was Jesus’ friend.

Thank you that when we're trusting in Jesus we have His Holy Spirit living in us. [Think about someone you'd like to talk to about Jesus] Please help me to tell ............. about Jesus. Amen.

Songs to sing or listen to

The lovely Lou Cackett from the Lower GSMA team will be helping us with the actions this Sunday.

Praying for each of us to know God's help as we keep pointing our children to Jesus.
