June 4 Statement from the Province IV Bishops

A statement from Province IV, known as the Sewanee Province, the southern dioceses of The Episcopal Church:

Recent events are a shocking reminder of what we have left undone. The white vigilante murder of Ahmaud Arbery in Brunswick, Georgia; the unwarranted killing by police of Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky while she was sleeping in her own bed; and now the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota also at the hands of police, scream out to us of our work left undone. Sadly, these racist murders are by no means the only ones, and they were not committed simply by a few bad actors. What we are seeing is the work of a conscious and unconscious system designed to deny dignity and safety to some of God’s children. MORE

Tribute to the History and Future of DaySpring

PARRISH - As DaySpring begins construction on its Spring of Support donor recognition gathering area this summer, the Diocese of Southwest Florida presents a series of videos to share a variety of perspectives on the history and future for our ‘Sacred Place’.

Our first video in the series, seen above, features the family of Ted and Debby Tripp.

We thank God for the generous support of the entire Tripp family over the last several decades. They have not only experienced, but faithfully served the mission of DaySpring with the time, talent and treasure of three generations. Clearly, the Tripp family legacy is a monumental part of what DaySpring Episcopal Center is today.  We are thrilled to honor their legacy by naming a special place in their honor - the Tripp Family Pavilion in honor of Paula Jones Tripp and Deborah Tripp.

Sacred Ground Releases Statement

ST. PETERSBURG - Parishioners from across the Diocese of Southwest Florida gathered in November 2019 with Katrina Brown, the curriculum developer for Sacred Ground. Sacred Ground is a film and readings-based dialogue series on race that is grounded in faith. Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race and racism, while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity.

A group of parishioners from the St. Petersburg Deanery formed a circle that began meeting in February and has met regularly even through the pandemic. In light of the current events unfolding, they are offering a statement which they hope will serve as a call to others to join them in learning about and dismantling racist systems in our communities and nation.
