The Data Shows It Works
You’ll be inspired to know your money and time are going to achieving remarkable results. Thanks to the research skills of USFSP graduate student Kassie Ramsdell and enhanced data collection from Red Tent we have solid outcomes to report.
Using the 2018 cohort of Red Tent participants, only 24% of the women who took the Red Tent class while in jail returned to jail in the first year. Compare this to the U.S. Department of Justice data that shows that 44% nationally return to jail in the first year. It's a remarkable drop in recidivism. As our founder Barbara Rhode likes to point out, 76% stay out of jail and can now build a better life compared to over just 50% nationally. Imagine the benefits to families and communities with fewer women in jail.
For the women who did return to jail, they stayed out of jail longer than any time prior to taking the Red Tent class.
For the women who stayed out of jail, we have many inspiring stories to share. Stay tuned for future newsletters to hear some of these stories. Here's Nicki telling her story at one of our fundraisers.
