Spotlight on Circular Economy: Refill Station
To celebrate Circular Economy Week this week, CCCA are highlighting the Refill Station Camden Project.
Refill Station Camden is a unique circular economy enterprise that is run by the community for the community. The trailer stall made from reclaimed and recycled materials sells grains, liquids and cleaning products that are locally sourced, affordable and ethical. Customers bring along a tub, lidded jar or reusable container to fill up and pay by weight.
The council are looking forward to reopening the Queens Crescent Street Market site where the stall is usually located on Thursdays and Saturdays later this month.
Residents who take part in the Camden Recycling Rewards points scheme can also receive a discount for recycling and reducing waste.

Making travel safe in Camden - your say
Camden Council has made a series of safety-based changes to streets in the borough as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and the new road safety challenges that this has presented.
These changes have been implemented to make it easier and safer for people to walk and cycle, reach local amenities and maintain physical distancing. Read more about these changes here.
To help tackle future challenges that may arise as lockdown restrictions are eased, the council are asking for suggestions for other locations where changes could be made.
Access the simple interactive map here to make your suggestion.

Blog: Air Quality & COVID-19, next steps?
The introduction of lockdown measures in London has had a significant impact on air quality in the city.
A reduction in traffic levels has lead to a reduction in nitrogen dioxide levels. Particulate matter levels however were recorded as being higher during lockdown. This suggests that the majority of increased pollution was derived from non-road and other sources outside of London.
Preliminary analysis suggests that the reduced emissions from London's roads averted a more severe pollution episode and the formation of smog. Further action is required to improve air quality that moves beyond taking cars off the road, however this is still a vital step.
The Camden Clean Air Action Plan outlines the ambitious measures that Camden are taking to tackle air quality, and with a renewed focus on how residents move around the borough in light of COVID-19, there is an opportunity to deliver a more permanent change whereby cars are no longer dominant and air quality is prioritised.

World Environment Day: Friday 5 June
Since 1974 World Environment Day (WED) has been celebrated every year, to provide a global platform for inspiring positive change which engages governments, businesses and citizens to focus their efforts on pressing environmental issues.
This year Colombia is hosting WED in partnership with Germany and the theme is biodiversity. In 2020, the world has seen and experienced raging bush fires, a global disease pandemic among many other events, which demonstrate the ways in which humans and nature are intrinsically linked.
Organisers are asking everyone to join in with raising awareness by sharing online why you love nature and what you are doing for it by using the hashtag #ForNature.

Climate Emergency & Disclosure
In last month's bulletin, CCCA shared an update from the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) on six guiding principles for a clean and resilient recovery.
On 1 June 2020, over 200 businesses including the Environment Agency also wrote to the Prime Minister echoing the same rhetoric.
Emma Howard Boyd, Chair of the Environment Agency has said that a big part of rebuilding a better economy which embeds the net zero and environmental agenda is disclosure.
Transparency is key - people want to know what their money is doing and want to support projects that produce a return yet reduce emissions; therefore consumers must be able to access clear and understandable data from companies.
