Online community and resources are more important than ever, so we want to keep you up to date on how COVID-19 is impacting our members and community. We are also sharing stories about putting people and planet first; we hope this inspiration will help get you through these unsettling times.

HEAD START - What's happening now

Journey to justice
Made in 2000, this documentary pays tribute to a group of Canadians who took racism to court. Featured here, among others, are Viola Desmond, a woman who insisted on keeping her seat at the Roseland movie theatre in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia in 1946 rather than moving to the section normally reserved for the city's Black population, and Fred Christie, who took his case to the Supreme Court after being denied service at a Montreal tavern in 1936.

Facebook employees stage walkout in criticism of Zuckerberg
Facebook employees critical of their CEO's decision not to act on President Trump's inflammatory comments about protests across the United States went public on Twitter, praising the rival social media firm for acting and rebuking their own employer. It was a rare case of high-level employees publicly taking their CEO to task, with critical posts coming from people who identified themselves as senior managers.

CSI SOLUTIONS: Putting people and planet first

From “food as commodity” to “food as medicine”
CSI member Nourish is working to fix broken systems that treat food simply as a commodity to be traded rather than fully valuing its healing impacts for people, communities, place, culture, and the planet. They are a semi-finalist for the Rockefeller Food System Vision Prize, competing with 78 other projects to obtain a spot in the Food System Vision Accelerator. We’re proud to support the work they’re doing, excited to see them come this far, and eager to see what they accomplish in the future!
MORE STORIES FROM THE CSI COMMUNITY

GO FOR IT - Opportunities

Did you know that there is funding available to make books accessible? The Canada Book Fund is inviting applications for projects for the first phase of a five-year initiative to support the sustainable production and distribution of accessible digital books by Canadian independent publishers. The first phase of the initiative will focus on engaging publishers, assessing industry needs, building knowledge, developing best practices and establishing industry standards. This support is available to both organizations and publishers in the book publishing industry.

At CSI, we are all about working together to find solutions that put people and planet first. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we feel the need for collaboration and community now, more than ever. CSI is here for you – even from a distance – to help you accelerate your impact.
