June 2, 2020
Dear Library Patrons,
It has been a hard time for us, as we have been unable to open or to get our materials to you. We know how much you enjoy our physical items, and how important they are to you. Beginning tomorrow, June 3, we will be offering no-contact curbside pick-up!
Here is how it works:
You can request books in the following ways:
- By requesting them through the CLAMS system at clamsnet.org
- By calling us at 508-349-0310 (between nine and five)
- By using our special email address: Wellfleetcurbside@gmail.com
Please note that statewide delivery has not started yet. You will only be able to request books in our collection. Please check the catalog before requesting books.
We will fill your request, check the books out to you, contact you to set up a time for pick-up, and your books will be waiting for you on a table outside the library, in a sealed, brown paper bag, with the first three initials of your last name, and the last four digits of your telephone number. We ask that you wait in your car if you see another patron at the table, and that you wear a mask when approaching the table. The table will be out front - on the Howland Lane area.
All books that are returned to us will be quarantined for 72 hours, and the staff will not handle books with masks and gloves.
For more information, please consult our website at wellfleetlibrary.org
Our robust selection of digital offerings are still available to you, so please take advantage of them. Additionally, our Wifi will remain on 24/7. We do ask that you remain in your car when using the Wifi. The Library building will remain closed at this time.
Take some time to check out some tabs on our website. One is for our online programming. The other is for our youth offerings and events. As we head into summer, we will be adding more events, as well as an online summer reading program. We are excited about possibilities that this summer will bring.
We would be remiss not to mention the current racial unrest happening in this country. The Wellfleet Library condemns racial injustice and the murder of George Floyd, along with the long line of brutality against Black people. It is is in direct opposition to the library's mission to be inclusive. We denounce systemic racism, and plan on bolstering our programming on race relations, creating a wider collection of materials to educate the public, and standing up against hate in all of its forms.
Thank you to everyone who has sent your good wishes. We continue to be so touched by your loveliness at a time when we are unable to open our building.
All my best to you,
Jennifer Wertkin

We are so overwhelmed by the love and generosity by Helen Addison at the Addison Art Gallery
As we live and work with hope
In lieu of our planned June Paul Schulenburg book gathering, Addison Art Gallery is donating to the Eastham, Wellfleet and Truro libraries — organizations that offer us resources on justice and equality — for every Schulenburg painting purchased through June 9.
Thank you, Helen, for your unwavering support of libraries.

About “The Second Home”
After a disastrous summer spent at her family's summer home on Cape Cod, seventeen year old Ann Gordon is left harboring a secret that changes her life forever, and creates a rift between her sister, Poppy, and their adopted brother, Michael.
Now, fifteen years later, her parents have died, and Ann and her sister Poppy are left to decide the fate of the old Wellfleet home that's been in the Gordon family for generations. While they both love the house, they decide to sell it and move forward.
But then Michael re-enters their lives with a legitimate claim to a third of the estate. He wants the house. But more than that, he wants to set the record straight about that long ago summer.
Reunited after years apart, these very different siblings are forced to decide if they can continue to be a family--and in the process, they'll discover that the house might be the glue that holds them together.
About Christina Clancy
My debut novel, The Second Home, will be published June, 2020, St. Martin's Press.
Our family has owned a home in Wellfleet since the 1890's. When my grandparents lived there, we visited for a few weeks each summer throughout my childhood. I still go back as often as I can.
As much as I love Cape Cod, I also enjoy living in the Midwest. I grew up in Milwaukee and now live in Madison, Wisconsin, with my husband John. We have two grown kids, Olivia and Tim. I'm a certified spin instructor, and I serve on the board of Wisconsin Conservation Voters.
In 2011, I received my PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I previously taught creative writing at Beloit College.
stories are posted on our Facebook Page and our Youtube page
Listen to our Youth Service Librarian, Anna Nielsen, read chapters of Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle. This is a project she started when the schools were open. We are thrilled to have her back by popular demand. You can find the chapters on our YouTube page: as well as our Facebook page.

A MESSAGE FROM THE FRIENDS OF THE WELLFLEET LIBRARY
The Friends of the Wellfleet Library would like to thank the community for extraordinary support of our Library and staff during this challenging time. Through your contributions, we’ve been able to fund Seeds-by-Mail, as well as some online services for e-books, audiobooks, and streaming video. We’ve also supported the library's first virtual programming, including workshops on sustainable gardening and tending chickens.
We regret that our three major events for this summer, including book sales, have been postponed until summer 2021. The Distinguished Speaker, Fiona Hill, has graciously agreed to appear in August 2021.
We can't take any book donations now, but will let you know as soon as that is possible.
