We Stand Together in Solidarity!

Hands grasped in solidarity
The Berkeley Staff Assembly Governing Council (BSA-GC) stands together with the Black Staff & Faculty Organization (BSFO), CESO, and campus leaders in outrage over the racially-motivated violence that is taking place across America. The BSA-GC whole-heartedly agrees with the Chancellor's message that "We must call out and hold accountable our broken structures, build bridges that will lead to mutual understanding and respect across differences, and work to create a future in which we can all thrive, especially in these most challenging times."
STAFF SPOTLIGHT:
Summer Scanlan
In one sentence, briefly describe the nominee’s job/role at UC Berkeley:
Summer is the outgoing Chair of the Berkeley Staff Assembly. She is also a Data Analyst in the Information Security Office, and manages the CalNet help desk.

How long has the nominee worked at Cal?
Summer has worked at UC Berkeley for 13 years.

What does the nominee love about working at UC Berkeley?
The people! Cal has great staff, students, and faculty. Summer particularly loves all the interesting names and stories of the people she meets via her work with the help desk.

What makes the nominee a star, what sets them apart from their colleagues?
Summer tries to make everything better -- such as streamlined processes, updated documentation, and thoughtful communications. She is also a people person and enjoys collaborating on departmental and campus-wide projects.

What tip would the nominee pass on to other staff to thrive on campus?
Get out there and meet people! The campus is full of staff who do remarkable, interesting, and important things and who have good info and tips to share. Join a Staff Org or Community of Practice to meet people. Conversations with colleagues are invaluable.

What can we find the nominee doing on the weekends?
Hiking in the woods, cooking with her identical twin, or working on her house.
