Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatahu,
Dear brothers and sisters,
Our country is hurting right now. It has been hurting for quite some time. Protests across the nation have resulted from centuries of crimes against the black community, and we as Muslims, the flagbearers of justice, cannot idly sit without speaking truth to power. Our religion teaches us to enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil (9:112). And so, the Islamic Association of Collin County stands in solidarity with our black brothers and sisters to uphold that black lives matter.
We send our deepest condolences to the loved ones of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Aubrey, and countless others who have lost their lives to the evil of racism, and we demand accountability for their deaths. We encourage Muslims to be at the forefront of vanquishing supremacy wherever and whenever anyone is confronted with it, both in the public sphere as well as in our homes and communities. As Allah SWT says in the Holy Qur’an, stand firm in justice even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives (4:135). Let us speak against racism if a friend or family member crosses the line. Let us instill in our children the proper values of love and compassion.
Let us raise our hands and beseech our Lord. Ya Allah, by Your Name the Most Merciful, bring multiple means of ease for every difficulty faced by our black brothers and sisters. By Your Name the Avenger, destroy oppression and racism and those who perpetrate it. By Your Name the Guide, change the hearts of the wrongdoers, and by Your Name the Steadfast, strengthen the resolve of those reluctant to act. By Your Name the All-Powerful, give us the ability to contribute, and by Your Name the Benevolent, bless our efforts. By Your Name the Just, grant victory to the right side of history. Ameen.
