We at Jewels Academy believe that even isolation cannot stop inspirational education. With this goal in hand, we are so pleased to announce Jewels Academy's second virtual event: a team-based virtual app camp! Over the course of six weeks, each team of 2-3 students will work together to imagine, design, and create a working app that in some way fulfills a need within their community, thereby promoting teamwork, goal-based learning, and community engagement.
Our computer and electrical engineering instructor will guide students throughout their app's development, teaching them about computer science, applied math, and critical problem solving during weekly classroom sessions and individual group check-ins. Between check-ins, each team can rely upon a personal team mentor selected from our Jewels Academy high school graduates for assistance.
To top it all off, we have brought the spirit of entrepreneurship and competition! Completed apps will be presented to and judged by the Jewels Academy board and special guest judges from our sponsors, Cognizant and Microsoft, according to the app's functionality and overall benefit to the community. The winner will be awarded a $100 Amazon gift card, so be sure to do your best!

Hello! My name is Mattea M. and I'm the new media intern at Jewels Academy. Currently, I'm a junior at Iowa State University studying Chemical Engineering with minors in Spanish Language and Culture as well as Biomedical Engineering. I'm very excited to take on this new role and continue to work with all the wonderful people at Jewels Academy.

For the first time, Jewels Academy has expanded its summer math program to encompass virtual math tutoring! Students from 4th-10th grades may apply for biweekly sessions which will occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4-6 p.m from the end of May through the month of June.

Tuesdays and Thursdays
4 - 6 p.m.
$80/mo or 20/week (two 45 minute sessions/week) with certified teachers and Math Professionals as overseers. Scholarships are available.
