Friday Notice 5 June 2020

What's happening during Term 2:

June:

8 Monday: Queen's Birthday holiday
17 Wednesday: Committee Meeting @ 7pm

A REMINDER: Please do not bring nuts or any nut products into the school classrooms or grounds. We have some children who have life-threatening allergies to nuts.

From Julie

Thank you to all parents for cooperating so well with our new COVID safe drop-off and pick-up arrangements. Despite some misgivings from a few early on, children have shown themselves to be very able to independently make their own way into school via the sanitiser each morning. Some are having problems with remembering to collect all their belongings at the end of the day but, with reminders, are getting better with practice.  After discussion we have realised that we don’t need 15 minutes to clear exits at the end of the day so we think it will work better to make the finish time for Kinder to Grade 2 students 2:50 and the finish time for older children in Grades 3 to 6 at 3:00pm. I hope this helps. Please remember to communicate with your child/ren which gate you will pick them up from especially over the next week while the playground is still being built. It will be much easier once we can move along the pathway next to the Green Space more easily.

Craig Cunningham, the director of Sturdybilt, addressed our Gathering on Wednesday about the plan to completion of our new playground equipment and he has promised the children that they will be able to play on the equipment from Monday 16th June; that brought a very big cheer from students who I think have been very patient and also interested in the process of construction.

We will have our first Student Forum for Term 2 next Tuesday, 9th June, using our old Term 1 representatives as they did not get much of a go last term. Our question next week will be to figure out how to safely and happily manage our new access to the play equipment.

We have been doing our Gatherings via Zoom and while Zoom enabled us to share videos made by children or about Eddie Mabo, we have decided that overall it leads to the children being more close to each other inside than they would be outside in our normal Gathering space on the steps.  Consequently, will return to outside Gatherings from next week.

We are starting Clubs early as follows:
Monday; Art with Cameron, Georgia and Bella
Tuesday: Coding with Harry and Anders
Wednesday: Chess with Julie
Thursday: Garage band with Anders and Harry
Thursday: Macramé for Biggies with Lee and Sharon
Friday: Wilderness Warriors with Daisy and Akira

Just a reminder that we still have one spot available on our Project Coordination Group to advise and drive our master planning for the school grounds and buildings: Mel and Michelle M have nominated so far bringing project management, architectural and educational experience and appreciation to the team. Perhaps someone with building experience or insight?

Biggies

The second week back in the warm ‘virtual’ embrace of our dear Cottage School, has seen the Biggies enjoying each-others’ company again and settling back into the familiar school life.
This week we also took a break in our inquiry unit around our currency to learn about the life and work of the Bulgarian artist Christo, who died a few days ago.  Christo and his wife and collaborator, Jeanne Claude were best known for their massive, temporary artworks that included wrapping in fabric, the coastline at Little Bay in Sydney, The Reichstag in Berlin and Pont Neuf in Paris.
Christo’s early work was not on such a grand scale, and involved wrapping everyday items, including household items and furniture.  The Biggies took inspiration from these early works, and found the aesthetics in the everyday. Kath

TOYS AND TRINKETS

A reminder that children are not to bring toys or trinkets to school.

We seem to have an outbreak at school at the moment and they are a bit contagious and very distracting!

Also much angst is often caused when precious things get lost so they are best kept at home.
