It's time to spread the word and sign up for an evening of fun, fundraising & prize winning!

Dear <<First Name>>
Following on from our email last week and with less than a week to go, we thought we'd take the time to remind you about our 'How Well Do You Know Norfolk' quiz. Our first shot at an online event and hopefully one of many to come!

Why online? Because of the lockdown, we are unable to go about raising funds as we usually do -  events have been cancelled and business activity has changed. However at the same time our service has been in more demand than ever, supporting over 500 people in your community. Aside from emergency welfare visits, we have been working with beneficiaries over the phone, through online groups, through video calls, and delivering care and activity packs as well as food and utilities vouchers to those who need it most.

Hence our quiz at 7.30pm on Thursday 11th, June! What better way to remain connected with others, have fun and raise funds by joining in our Family Quiz to see what you know about Norfolk. The quiz is multiple choice and will get you thinking! It's free to play and will be fun for all the family and if you’d like to make a donation to the Matthew Project we would be very, very grateful. Any contribution large or small will support us in helping our clients on the road to recovery.

The wonderful Chris Bailey will be our Quiz Master for the evening. Born and bred in Norwich, Chris is a well known auctioneer, presenter and actor. Alongside Chris, The new High Sheriff of Norfolk, Georgie Roberts will be asking a round of questions and so too will Caroline Jarrold, Community Affairs Adviser at Jarrolds, one of the longest established businesses in Norwich.

Our new Events & Fundraising Officer Sarah, is in the process of sourcing a collection of prizes from local people and businesses, so the lucky winner will not go away empty handed so the stakes just rose!
If you or anyone you know feels able to donate a prize, you can contact her at sarah.king@matthewpoject.org
If you have any questions about this event or anything else for that matter, feel free to drop us a line at enquiries@matthewproject.org

We'll be in touch early next week with final details for the run of the evening and what you'll need to take part. Don't worry if you've never done an online quiz before, technically it's not too challenging, we've already plenty of first timers signed up and we'll be on hand to support you where needed.

Do please sign up if you're available, tell your friends and family, donate where you can and most of all stay safe this weekend!

With best wishes to you all from the Team at The Matthew Project x

A service users story...

I’ve been receiving regular visits from *Pete over the last few months after being put in touch with outside the wire by my partner. Our meetings have been very beneficial so far and I have made some positive changes in my behaviour, especially

towards excessive alcohol consumption. Pete has made me understand like never before the impacts that alcohol can have on my life, my work and family. His help has been brilliant and he also understands the pressures of leaving the service and conveys his messages with an understanding and empathetic tone albeit with a sense of authority which I really needed. His wealth of experience has taught me many things and given me a belief that I have been lacking for a long time ……A believe in myself.
I’m a sufferer of PTSD, depression and anxiety. Pete has built a strong report with me from day one and enabled me to open up about what’s really going on in my life and to take a step back and actually evaluate everything. He has encouraged me to focus on the positive things in my life much more and even offered me a challenge of improving my fitness.
Covid-19 -  Since the lock down in March has been in force, mine like so many others lives have been impacted. Pete has gone out of his way to keep me informed of his availability and we have continued to work together via the telephone. This has been a God send. His continued support has kept me level despite a couple of bouts of heavy drinking of which we have discussed, analysed and I’m please to say I have under control. On one occasion when I was having a particular bad time my partner contacted Pete and he immediately called me to discuss the matter and gave me hope.
In reference to Pete encouraging me to exercise and aim for new fitness goals, I have agreed to work towards running a 5k race. I am now on my 4th week of training using the NHS couch to 5k application and have to say despite it’s challenges has help me immensely . Pete and I get on very well and we have much in common. I am making progress with my life because of Pete and hope to be able to continue to have meetings with him for the foreseeable future. He is a fantastic representative for your incredible charity and now my friend.
Thank you for all the help that Outside the wire is giving veterans like myself."
