Honouring
Last week was filled with eruptions of "enough-is-enough" protests, grief and anger that have long built up under oppressive systems that are based on minimizing segments of our society, for the gain of others. We can protest against racism, share posts of BlackLivesMatter, support advocacy groups for justice, all beautiful, but nothing really changes anything if we seek the change outside ourselves.

These systems are not external oppressors, we are all raised in and conditioned by these systems, we are the systems until we change ourselves. The real work is to acknowledge what you represent by the colour of your skin, then chose who you want to be in this world.

As a company we stand for justice, equality and respect. We are a certified B Corp and use our business as a tool to build a better world for all of us, to break down oppressive systems, and speak our truths. It is our duty to align our actions with the values we speak, and do our work.

A few requests to white identifying people who are just becoming aware of the consequences of white supremacy and want to do something: Please do not tell people how they should grief or protest, the last centuries have been violent for most people who are not white identifying, and their trauma is through generations. This is no time to tell people not to express their anger. Sit with it, acknowledge discomfort.
Do not try and solve it to avoid your deep feeling of discomfort about what you represent. Sit with it, acknowledge the system you represent and how that feels to be an accomplice. Please do not ask people of colour, black or indigenous how you can help, what they want you to do to make it better, they are exhausted and are grieving, give time and space. If you feel compelled to do something, read our HOME page with lots of learning links, and HERE is a link to M4BL with lots of suggestions and actions you can take. Please be aware of the anger and grief that needs to be acknowledged and you cannot solve it.

If you like to talk about what you feel in this time, send an email to BE@thealinker.com with your phone number. You can ask her all the questions you have about how we can learn to be in this time.

We start this newsletter with a poem that BE Alink, founder of the Alinker wrote last week.
"dear" white supremacy

I unsubscribe
from your system
that I represent
by the colour of my skin

You made the colour of my skin
represent
racial oppression
racial murders
racial rape
racial inequality
racial crimes

You tainted our history with blood

You made me complicit
My actions
in ignorance
made me an accomplice
to your crimes

I hate you

I had to learn
that the privileges
you gave me
are criminal
are over the back of
the ones that look
different than me

I unsubscribe
from your system
because you are wrong
you are a criminal

As I learned
and became aware
I feel the pain
I cannot sleep
I cannot breath

I am deeply grieving
what you made me part of
the horrors
the loss
the suffering
the murders
the rapes
the millions of trauma
the diminishing
ongoingly
that my skin colour represents

I am outraged
by how you continue
to divide us
use my skin colour
to keep me apart
from the people I love

I can't breath
As long as we are divided
My neck hurts
Feeling the pain of separation
My chest is crushed
I can't breath

I unsubscribe
from your system
of white supremacy
so you cannot use me
to serve your purposes

Fuck you

you are wrong
you are a criminal
and you
need to be in jail
banned for ever

So we can live
Breath
Love
And be sisters and brothers
for who
we
chose
to
BE

Sneak preview
Late summer 2020 we'll be launching the smaller Alinkers with pre-sales campaigns. We are steppin' it UP!!! Here is a little sneak preview of no one less than Marla Glen to provide the music to launch this campaign.....

We are already getting excited! Go and check Marla's new album UNEXPECTED. It is such a good album and we are so honoured that Steppin' UP from this album is the theme song for our campaign.
One of our 122 campaigners
During this short break in which we have paused the crowdfunding campaigns, we like to share some stories of what happened to the people who received their Alinker with the help of the community.

Meet Elizabeth Jones

Less than a year ago, Elizabeth decided to do her Alinker crowdfunding campaign. Elizabeth sharing her story and inviting people to show up with generosity and fundraise her Alinker together. Once she got her Alinker, her life changed dramatically.

She traveled to Scandinavia with her Alinker and is interviewed for JourneyWoman magazine, link to the article HERE.   Then in October she meets Selma Blair kind of unexpectedly, she is just at the same event. On her Alinker!

Recently this profile piece was published by the The Nantucket Project.
Click HERE if you are interested to watch the 30 minute film: Beneath the Surface, or below here for the profile piece of Elizabeth Jones.

We are taking a short break - new launches soon
