TCS Times

Nau mai, haere mai ngā whānau o te kura o Tahatai.  A very warm welcome to all our TCS students and their families.

Alert Level 1
It is so good being back at alert level 1 as it means we are able to reintroduce such things as Whānau assemblies, school sports, whole school break times and community events. The key is for us to hold onto the learning taken from the last few months by ensuring we maintain high levels of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the school. Students will continue to be encouraged to regularly wash their hands and use the sanitiser provided. We are also going to continue with our midday cleaning of the desk tops, door handles, light switches and taps.  We will not be opening up the drinking fountains yet, so please ensure your child comes to school with a drink bottle.

Kiss’n Go
As a school community, we are very fortunate to have the Kiss’n Go facility to support the dropping off of students at the beginning of a school day.  Please ensure you kiss and cuddle your child at home before getting into your vehicle. This way we can avoid parents having to get out of their car, causing traffic to back up along Evans Road. Please do not exit the Kiss’n Go carpark by turning right. This stops the flow of all traffic along Evans Road and places an increased risk to our students as they arrive at school.
The Kiss’n Go Rules are:

  1. Have everything ready before leaving home to ensure an easy drop off.
  2. Parents to stay in the vehicle please. Students exit on the passenger side of the vehicle.
  3. Drive to the next available car park that is closest to the main school gate.
  4. No right turn exiting the Kiss’n Go carpark. Left turn only.

Important Dates
Last year the Primary Teachers Union (NZEI) successfully negotiated with the Ministry of Education an additional 8 teacher only days to support administration workloads. These 8 days are required to occur across the agreed timeframe of three years. Two have been set for this year, with Monday 10th August being the first and Friday 23rd October being the second. These days have been coordinated alongside Mount Intermediate and Mount College.

Congratulations
I'd like to congratulate two ex Tahatai Coast School students who have recently been awarded leadership positions at Mount Maunganui College. Courtney Pedersen is Arts Leader and Kendal Devlin is Sports Leader. Both Courtney and Kendal attended Tahatai during their primary school years, and it is fantastic to see them develop and be recognised for their leadership strengths.

Learning Conferences
You have been sent an email with information about the upcoming Learning Conferences to be held on Wednesday 1st July and Thursday 2nd July. We would appreciate that you ensure you have booked a time to meet with your child's teacher as these conferences are a vital part of your child’s learning while attending Tahatai. During this conference, the teacher will be able to share up to date assessment information and set new learning goals for your child. The notes that will guide the discussion will be available for you to take home on the last day of term. Please see the details below on how to book for your child's conference.

Dear Parents/Caregivers and Whānau

Please follow the onscreen prompts to make your booking/s. Bookings close on Monday, 29th June at 12:00pm.  It is expected that you make an interview to meet with your child’s teacher on one of these days. Teachers will be in contact by email and/or phone with those yet to make an appointment and will help you book a time to come and meet with them.  If you are unable to meet on either of the days set, or were unable to book a time, please get directly in contact with your child’s classroom teacher by email to make alternative arrangements.

At Tahatai Coast School, we strive to keep our parents/caregivers well informed of the individual progress of their child.

The conferences will be 15 minutes in length, with the first 5 minutes being held just with the teacher and parent/caregiver.  Younger children may of course stay in the classroom in an area that will be set up by the classroom teacher. Older children will be seated just outside the classroom.  The remaining 10 minutes of the conference will be when your child may be involved, sharing his or her reflections and next steps with you.

Please note that the information sheet shared at the conferences will be copied and sent home on Friday, 3rd of July, and will be your child's mid-year report for 2020.
