Greetings From

The Teacher-Powered Schools Boston Network

June 2020

Dear Teacher-Powered Educators,

The murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery like countless others before them, have left us sad and angry and have again exposed injustices in our country brought about by systemic racism and white supremacy. Still, unjust biases, practices, and policies exist within our schools. We remain committed to honoring Black lives, dismantling racist systems, and holding ourselves and each other accountable to make lasting and meaningful changes in Boston and beyond. We're filled with hope seeing many of our students, families, and colleagues using their voices and taking a stand against racism.

In their latest newsletter, Mission Hill faculty and students reflect on these most recent atrocities and how they're moving forward as a community. Co-School Leader, Jenerra Williams, shares the encouragement she finds in the lyrics to Sweet Honey in the Rock's Ella's Song. "I hope this will encourage you, too, and if not this song, something or someone else you connect to as we all move forward in our understanding, growth and healing," she writes to the MHS community. You can read Mission Hill's full newsletter here.

Over the next few days, as you virtually close out this school year and hopefully prepare to enjoy some much deserved time off, we want to share with you two important updates regarding the Boston Teacher-Powered Schools Network.

  • Our Teacher-Powered Learning Collaboratives are up and running and we want you to be a part of them! This is an excellent opportunity to connect with like-minded educators. To join, fill out this form.
  • Our Teacher-Powered Schools Boston Network is also up and running. This is a space to learn about local networking events, connect with nearby schools and educators, and engage in shared learning and support. Joining the network is completely free and also gives you discounts on TPS events including conferences, professional development, and coaching. Follow this link to learn more and join.

Recent Boston Teacher-Powered Events
During the school year, Boston educators gathered together both in and out of school. We kicked off the year with a happy hour at Turtle Swamp Brewing. Then, we got together for an Eat & Greet at Mission Hill. Look out for our emails to stay involved in all future Massachusetts Teacher-Powered events!

Send us an email if you have any questions or ideas for our network. We're excited to work with you!

Sincerely,

Danny Flannery and Taryn Snyder
