DUT RECEIVES 5000 MASKS FROM ITS CHINESE COOPERATIVE PARTNERS

The Durban University of Technology received a generous donation of 5000 masks on 23 May 2020.

The masks were donated by DUT’s Chinese cooperative partners, the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU), Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology (BIFT) and the Confucius Institute. Professor Sibusiso Moyo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Engagement and Sister Sooriagandhi Wardthen, Chief Professional Nurse at the Department of Student Counselling and Health, received the donation handed over by Mr Frank WU, Co-Dean of the Confucius Institute (CI) at DUT on behalf of the Chinese partners.

DUT MANUFACTURES ITS OWN HAND SANITIZERS

Durban University of Technology (DUT) has produced 1000 litres of hand sanitizer: FastSan 80 which will be distributed for free to staff and students when the university re-opens.

FastSan2This project is part of the university’s initiatives driven by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Thandwa Mthembu, to curb the spread of COVID-19 among the DUT community.

Professor Suren Singh, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences stated that the faculty has a wide array of expertise that could play a significant role in the fight against COVID-19.

TWO executive members of the Durban University of Technology’s Convocation (CONVEX) will be among the university’s alumni who will be graduating, adding to the list of their qualifications at DUT’s 2020 Virtual Graduation ceremony to be held online on Wednesday, 10 June 2020 at 12pm.

Phumelela Vezi from Umlazi will be obtaining his Master’s Degree in Information and Corporate Management while Thamsanqa Mkhulisa from the rural area of Impendle, outside Pietermaritzburg will be obtaining his BTech in Public Management.

MASUKU OBTAINS HIS BACHELOR OF CHILD AND YOUTH CARE DEGREE CUM LAUDE

Perseverance, hard work and sheer sacrifice are the key factors which led to 23-year-old Andile Masuku obtaining Cum laude for his Bachelor of Child and Youth Care degree, at the Durban University of Technology, under the auspices of the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The ecstatic yet emotional Masuku was not surprised that he passed his degree with Cum laude. He stressed that he is very fond of his studies, and having the empathy and being ready to use oneself as a tool to heal the wounded children, youth and their families, drives him to be a success story.
