Street Food goes Click & Collect

Last weekend saw the formal launch of Digbeth Diner Click and Collect service; a concept developed with NCASS to enable food businesses to trade safely during Covid-19.

Digbeth Dining Club (DDC) is one of the UK’s biggest street food events and when the Covid crisis started, mobile catering stopped as did DDC. The need for businesses to find a way to trade safely and earn a living, however, did not. It became more and more apparent that many within the independent sector, including Street Food, wouldn’t be able to access the support they needed via the Government measures. With rent and bills to pay and families to support, there would be no choice but to adapt and carry on.

Caterer Spotlight

Despite the many hurdles that Covid-19 has thrown at the hospitality industry, a whole community of entrepreneurial minds that make up the independent food and drink sector have rallied round to confront the challenges head on. Whether by offering DIY food kits, hosting live cooking tutorials, or serving up food to their local communities and frontline workers, we want to showcase just how our industry is continuing to thrive under the toughest of circumstances.

This week, we sat down for a call with Mark Anderson from Pizzacraft to talk about how he’s been keeping his business going through lockdown.

Government updates

The Government this week announced plans to ease some lockdown restrictions from next Monday 1st June, allowing friends and families to meet in groups of up to six people outside.

Though the news will bring about no new changes to mobile caterers and many food businesses, the Prime Minister did provide some hope to the hospitality industry by saying that the two-metre distancing rule may soon be eased and that pubs, restaurants and hotels could be permitted to open sooner than 4th July.
