Balance of Leadership
By Samuel Aubrey

Developing a competitive advantage is an important strategy component in an organization’s toolbox to ensure success.  Leaders must balance the elements of timelines and effectiveness in relation to the quality of decisions made and consider the availability and usefulness of information  needed to aid in the decision-making process.  This present time has definitely proven this approach to be true and worthy of implementation.  One such strategy to strike such a balance is the diligence-based strategy.  A diligence-based strategy observes, measures, and manages people activity to determine what drives business success in the midst of competition.  In business, trustworthiness of information flowing to and from the organization is key in the formation of perceptions.  Still, the amount of information needed to ensure the highest level of quality in a resolution for success cannot be measured without consideration of the time to yield positive outcomes.  Diligence-based strategy values data and the realistic assumptions concerning human behavior as a key factor of strategic management.

In short, evaluate each source-point of information used to guide your business decisions and strategy development.  Strategies that foster conditions for successful outcomes requires diligent, disciplined, action in all organization types and throughout the organization as a whole—that supersedes the inclination to absorb without vetting all available information to connect strategy and execution in your business operation paradigm.

COVID-19 UPDATES

NC in “Safer at Home” Phase 2

In Phase 2, the Stay at Home order is lifted. However, teleworking is still encouraged and remaining home whenever possible is recommending, particularly for people who are high risk.

  • Gatherings: Limited to 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors.
  • Bars, night clubs, gyms, and indoor entertainment venues remain closed.
  • Restaurants, salons, and barbers can open at 50% capacity, and employees must wear face coverings.
  • Childcare facilities, day camps, and overnight camps are opened.
  • Retail will remain at 50% capacity, as in Phase 1.

What does Phase 2 mean for REALTORS®?

Under Phase 2, the initial state stay-at-home order is lifted, meaning that business activity, including those not originally designated as essential can now operate. Remote work is still strongly encouraged.

Since real estate was designated as essential in the original order, and most more restrictive local orders have expired, this does mean that real estate activities are allowed, provided that you continue to abide by ALL health and safety guidelines (social distancing, mass gathering limitations, and sanitization protocols). Make sure to check out
NC REALTORS® best practices guidelines for more information.

Here are some other key parts of Phase 2:

  • Face coverings are recommended for use in all public settings, including grocery stores, pharmacies and other retail businesses. Face coverings are recommended for use outdoors where 6 feet of distance is not possible.
  • Restaurants can reopen dining rooms but at 50% capacity and social distancing for diners enforced.
  • Salons, barber shops, tattoo parlors and other personal care and grooming businesses can reopen at 50% capacity.
  • Retail stores must limit customers to 50% of capacity, no more than 12 customers per 1,000 square feet. They should mark 6-foot intervals to allow for social distancing in lines and other high-traffic areas.
  • Swimming pools can open at 50% capacity.
  • People can gather in small groups of no more than 10 people indoors or 25 people outdoors.

Phase 2 is expected to remain in effect for roughly five weeks, currently estimated at June 26, but it could be shortened or extended based on current health data.

Local governments are able to enforce more restrictive guidelines than the state, but we have yet to see that occurring in most areas.

NC REALTORS® will continue to review the Order to determine any additional requirements for members and local associations. As always, please make sure to follow all health and safety guidelines regardless of if you are allowed to be in public.
