GSCC "Mini" Update - May 28, 2020
From the Pastors:

As we prepare to celebrate Pentecost this Sunday, the presence of the Spirit with the church is clear to us in ways that are very different! As we gather virtually during these times, we remember that the early church was very concerned with the well-being of all. The "rest of the story" in Acts 2 is that those early believers ate bread together and prayed together and shared things in common so that all would have what was needed. This, surely, was the guidance of God's Holy Spirit as we human beings tend to want to take care only of ourselves and those closest to us.

Yet in this time, the church continues. We may not be gathering in person, and the reasons for that are the same reasons that the early church members were quick to share resources - to care for all. Perhaps the most amazing piece, though, is the invitation to really BE the church in the world right now: to check on our neighbors, to grab a few extra items at the store for someone who cannot get out, to turn on porch lights for first responders and graduates, and to PRAY deeply for and with each other.

After all, as the old song goes, "the church is not a building, the church is not a steeple, the church is not a resting place. The church is the people." So as we gather this week via phone and internet and as we move about our daily lives, let us remember that whether gathered or scattered, "we are the church together!"

Trusting in the Spirit of God surrounding us,
Pastor Jill and Pastor Gene

Important Congregational Information

The annual congregational meeting will take place on June 14 via GoToMeeting, and will include the election of our leadership team for the coming year and the vote on the budget for the coming fiscal year. The proposed budget was included in the Generosity Campaign mailing sent out last week (by email or regular mail). Ballots for the leadership team and budget approval will be sent out next week, along with further information about when we will gather to ask questions ahead of time as well as the process for the congregational meeting.

Additionally, we know that many of you are wondering about when we might be worshiping together again in person. We do not currently have an answer for that, but there is a group of individuals from the congregation who are beginning to discuss what needs to be in place for us to safely gather in person. We will keep you up to date as we have more to share.

*Update to Building Entrance Policy*

*Masks are required and must be worn properly at all times while in the church building.*

This not only models anticipated behavior when GSCC does resume church gatherings but also for "risk reduction" and mitigation. The only exception at the present time is for the pastors when they are participating (speaking) in worship. Pastors will wear a mask when they are not engaged in a speaking role during the service.

If you do not have your own, masks will be available on the entrance table right inside the main doors. Please only take a mask if you do not have one, as they are in limited supply at the present time.

Thank you for your continued cooperation in keeping our church family healthy and safe!

                        We have DVDs available!

If you have trouble calling in for worship or do not have internet access but have a DVD player and want to SEE worship, we can have a DVD made up for you and sent directly to your house! If you are interested in receiving a DVD please contact Pastor Gene, Pastor Jill, or Kaleena Hensley.

                                    Laptops for Loan

We at GSCC have been blessed with a generous donation of multiple laptops from one of our local companies.  These have all been refurbished by an IT professional and are in good working order.  They come pre-loaded with Zoom and GoToMeeting for your convenience.  If you or anyone you know is in need of, and doesn't otherwise have access to, a laptop to connect with others, work during quarantine, or homeschooling a child please contact Kaleena Hensley in the church office.

**Please understand that, at this time, we cannot offer IT support for these laptops.**

Coronavirus Information from the Ohio Department of Health

Here at Good Shepherd Christian Church we are always looking for ways to care for our flock.  Recently, we found the Ohio Department of Health website has a wealth of information pertaining to the coronavirus pandemic.  This includes information about Ohio statistics (updated daily), latest developments, helpful videos, and a multitude of resources. Please click below to be taken to the Ohio Department of Health website.

Ohio Department of Health

We know times are tough and a little scary right now, especially because we feel we have very little control over what is happening in our own communities and all around the world.  The website has checklists to help you navigate through this including, but not limited to; avoiding scams, cleaning and disinfecting alternatives, cloth face coverings, coping with restrictions, and many more! There are 4 pages of checklists!  Here is the direct link for those checklists.

And of course, if you need help, support, or assistance please contact the GSCC office staff:

Please be respectful and adhere to social-distancing policies while using this service. We will also have bags of shelf-stable food available for pick-up at GSCC on Wednesdays from 5:30 - 6 pm. Please email us here or here for assistance.**
