GRISSOM INAUGURATION TRIP UPDATES:
We are still planning on attending the 2021 Presidential Inauguration in January of 2021. The Close-Up Foundation continues to enroll students who want to participate in this exciting week of activities. But we certainly understand hesitation to commit to a trip during this crisis. So students who commit and pay the deposit by the June deadline will be guaranteed a spot in the program. Students who wait until August to sign up will be added on a first come, first served basis until the spots are filled.
If a student is interested in participating in the trip, please contact Ms. Bailey for the enrollment information.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Bailey at Suzanne.Bailey@hsv-k12.org or Matt Hall at Matthew.Hall@hsv-k12.org .

We will be offering summer school for students in grades 9-12 who would like to receive credits in the following courses: Career Preparedness, Health, and Driver’s Education. Career Preparedness and Health will be offered virtually from July 6 -July 30, 2020. We will also offer Driver’s Education classes if social distancing guidelines permit. The cost for each course will be $200 plus a $50 registration fee. Students may work at their own pace for Career Preparedness and Health; however, the course must be completed no later than July 30th.

Tentatively, we will offer two sessions of driver’s education July 6- 17 and July 20- 30 from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. with limited enrollment. Students are required to have 30 hours of classroom instruction time and a minimum of three hours of drive time to successfully complete the Driver’s Ed course. This is the only course that will be offered in-person if social distancing guidelines permit.

Online registration for the high school sessions will be June 8 - June 19. You may pay by using the My School Fees tab on the school website. Additionally, families may pay in person at the Annie C. Merts Administrative Building (200 White Street, Huntsville, AL 35801) on Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. (noon). Forms of payment accepted include cash, checks, and certified checks payable to Huntsville City Schools.

Huntsville City Schools will initiate on-campus athletics and extracurricular activity practices and meetings beginning no earlier than Monday, June 8, 2020.

Although the State Health Officer Safer at Home Order Amendment of May 21, and the concurrently issued Alabama High School Athletic Association guidance permits initiation of on-campus athletics and extracurricular activity practices and meetings as early as June 1, the State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Eric Mackey, has given individual district superintendents the authority to do our own risk assessments and select initiation dates that allow us to develop and implement risk mitigation practices and processes that we believe are necessary.

We will be sharing more information at the June 4 Board of Education Work Session. HCS is working to enable the best possible risk mitigation effort before welcoming students, staff, and faculty back to campuses.

We know everyone is anxious to get the yearbook. Please continue to be patient as they are being printed and will ship to us soon. As soon as we have information on distribution, we will pass along the information to you.

From the GHS Drivers Ed. teachers:
Hey Everyone! We have some important information about yellow cards and driving.

Please read carefully.
We have entered a DRIVING 2 grade for those who have scored a 93 or above and therefore are eligible to receive their yellow card (3rd party driving certificate).
If you do not have a grade in the DRIVING 2 column, that means that you have not driven a second time OR that you do not have enough points yet for us to issue you a yellow card at this moment.
We will be willing to drive you again AS SOON AS the state allows us to.
We will also give out your yellow cards to those that have earned them already AS SOON AS the state allows us to have contact with you individually and you can sign the necessary paperwork and get important instructions.
Please remember that the class and the driving are separate. All of you have passed the class and will get credit for Driver's Ed. on your transcript. We will also print you a certificate for your insurance carrier that you can pick up on the date given to us by the state or in the fall when school starts back.
PLEASE CONTINUE TO CHECK CANVAS AS WELL AS ANY MESSAGES YOU GET SO WE CAN COMMUNICATE WITH YOU WHEN IT IS ALLOWED FOR US TO HAVE CONTACT WITH YOU.
QUESTIONS? CONTACT TANYA BROADWAY OR JAMES STEELE.
We miss you and wish you the best summer ever! Please continue to practice your driving and be safe! We look forward to seeing you soon.
