Online community and resources are more important than ever, so we want to keep you up to date on how COVID-19 is impacting our members and community. We are also sharing stories about putting people and planet first; we hope this inspiration will help get you through these unsettling times.

HEAD START - What's happening now

The largest zero-emissions airplane completes first flight
There are many advantages to electric flight. Zero-emissions aircraft will require less maintenance than fuel-based planes and will be 50% to 80% cheaper per hour to operate. That could lead to cheaper ticket prices, and encourage airlines to operate smaller airplanes on more routes to underserved airports.

India's first 'green' village adapts to life without tourists
The 20 sq km sanctuary, consisting of dense subtropical and temperate broadleaf forests, is the first formally conserved community sanctuary in India. Despite the loss of income from tourism, the village continues to have a high level of food security. Khonoma is known for its sustainable agriculture, and takes great pride in the fact that it has been self-sufficient since ancient times.

IT'S UP TO US - Change happens at CSI

We may be physically distanced, but our desire to create, share and learn brings us together. So the Steps Initiative is excited to announce HomeBase, a call for community art projects. STEPS invites ideas that use materials and objects you have in and around your home, incorporating DIY and upcycling approaches for project ideas in support of connecting individuals, neighbourhoods and communities through public art during a time of physical distancing.

CSI SOLUTIONS: Putting people and planet first

For so many of us, the COVID-19 crisis presents a steady stream of new challenges. For some, the desire to look for solutions is inspiring pivots into entire new industries. Laura Mather of POW Hearing is one example of this. A long-time member of CSI Annex, Laura boosts accessibility by providing real-time captioning at public events. She is now branching out to create clear masks to allow for lipreading, and is looking to her community for support in making this happen.
