On Sunday, the Marshall Chess Club (and friends) will take on players from Singapore in a friendly match to raise money to help those suffering due to the coronavirus pandemic. Each side will feature thirty-six players, including nine Grandmasters and nine International masters total. Men and women of all ages will be represented and the match will be broadcast live on Chess24 with commentary by club member (and 2x Canadian Champion) GM Pascal Charbonneau.

This international online chess challenge will be held on the Chess24 server on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at 10:15 am New York time. The players will play two games (alternate colors) with 15 minutes per player and a 10 seconds increment on each move. We hope you can tune in to support the Marshall and to contribute to this important cause. Let's beat CoVid-19 together!

MORE Online Tournaments & Classes!

We'll be running online tournaments this week on Thursday (later today!), Friday, and Saturday—including our first ever Friday Night Blitz - Online! Thursday and Saturday will feature reprisals of our Action and G/35 events respectively. You can register for these events (and the classes below) on the Marshall registration page.

We also have two new multi-week classes set to begin:

PAWN STRUCTURE CLASS (Instructor: FM Vincent Tsay) - Starts tomorrow!
Five classes. Each week students will learn plans to combat a common pawn structure, such as: the isolani, hanging pawns, caro-kann, & stonewall. (FM Tsay is one of the top hundred U-16 players in the world!)
Zoom required. The class is held from 5-6 pm on Fridays.
Enrollment fee: $75. [Additional $15 fee for non-members.]

GREAT GAMES CLASS (Instructor: IM Silas Esben Lund) - Starts 6/3!
Eight classes. One game is analyzed each week, from the classics to influential computer games. Students will play through the game and answer handout questions as homework. (IM Lund was recently awarded the FIDE Trainer title.)
Zoom required. The class is held from 7-8 pm on Wednesdays. Classes will be recorded for students in case they have to miss a week.
Enrollment fee: $100. [Additional $25 fee for non-members.]

We hope you'll take advantage of the opportunity to work with these outstanding instructors and expand your chess knowledge. As always, feel free to email us at
td@marshallchessclub.org with any questions.
