Membership – Looking Back, Looking Ahead

This is an important part of your membership year. Now is when we lay the groundwork for a successful fall. Two tools for a successful new year are your standing rules and the Washington State PTA membership checklist. With these tools you can take three steps toward a successful fall membership campaign.
  1. Create a draft membership form for next fall.
  2. Review your rules, have there been any changes? If memberships and prices are listed there make sure your draft membership form agrees.
  3. Open the membership checklist and go over your draft membership form, what changes can you make to earn more points.  NOTE: donated memberships require a restricted line item in your budget, if you’re not doing that now, bring it up with your PTA President.
Mark your calendars and plan to join us online for a Membership Workshop -- Tuesday, June 16 at 7pm.  We'll talk about Memberplanet, fall membership campaigns, and other questions and ideas you have! (GoToMeeting link)

Questions? Contact Council Membership Chair Felice at membership@lwptsa.net.

WSPTA Standards of Affiliation Checklist

The end of the year is a great time to review your PTA's 2019-2020 Standards of Affiliation (SOA) Checklist Agreement. Your board of directors should review what your PTA has accomplished and what still needs to be done, report it to your membership and record it in your meeting minutes.

As your PTA elects new officers and begins planning for 2020-21, be sure to include the SOA as a part of the transition process! Every elected board member is responsible for helping to ensure that their PTA is in compliance with all IRS, state, insurance and PTA requirements—and it can be overwhelming. The SOA is a great tool that can be used to help orient and educate board members about what they need to do and when to do it.

Would you like to ask a question? Send questions by June 4 to legconsultant@wastatepta.org and put Reykdal Question in the subject line. Please invite your local leadership team to join us for this opportunity.
