Friday is Juneteenth

Friday, June 19 is Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Texas to free enslaved Americans. Although the Emancipation Proclamation had formally freed them almost two and a half years earlier, enforcement of the proclamation had been slow and inconsistent in Texas, the most remote of the slave states.

June 19 is a reminder that nobody is free until everybody is free, and in observance of Juneteenth and in the wake of recent events, Metro Bike Share would like to reaffirm its commitment to stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter, our Black colleagues, riders and communities who continue to witness and endure the impact of the nation's bitter and painful anti-Black legacy. Our team and staff acknowledge that we are accountable to do our part in addressing racism as it exists today and for providing a bike share service that is equitable, fair and just in all aspects of its operations.
