Students Receive Emergency Funding Through CARES Act

Riverside Community College District distributed $3,146,000 in emergency aid to 6,292 students as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Colleges and universities received emergency funding as a result of the CARES Act, which was passed by Congress on March 27.  An RCCD task force, in consultation with student representatives, determined how monies were to be distributed based on US Department of Education CARES Act Emergency Aid eligibility criteria and need resulting from the pandemic.

Puente Program Goes Virtual for Day of the Child/Book


The Puente Program has found creative ways to celebrate, stay connected and provide essential services during the pandemic. In addition to assisting students, Emma Pacheco and Cynthia Ramirez, Puente Program coordinators, have been providing virtual mentoring activities during the campus closure. Recently, the Puente Program held its Día de los Niños/Libros (Day of the Child/Book) virtually.

Construction of Platform Scenario Training Building Ahead of Schedule


Despite the College closure, work continues on the Ben Clark Training Center Platform Scenario Training Building. The 3,642-square-foot facility will provide experiential and interactive jail scenario training, giving recruits the opportunity to work through potential real-life situations and scenarios to shape their judgment and decision-making while developing specific skills needed to work within jail facilities.

Norco College Partners with NAVSEA to Create Opportunities for Local Economy 

Norco College is one of three educational institutions to partner with NAVSEA to create opportunities for local economy through their Inland Empire Tech Bridge. The focus of Tech Bridge will be in areas deemed critical industries of the future, which include artificial intelligence, data analytics and data visualization, and advanced manufacturing.

Music Students Rocked On A Successful Livestream Concert 

On May 22, Norco College Music student artists and alumni performed a five hour show featuring original music and live interviews. The show included music genres varying from country, singer/songwriter, hip hop, pop, folk, indie, alternative, metal, and rock. The live stream session brought 446 unique viewers, 100 unique chatters, and 1,287 live views. The concert can be viewed on twitch.tv/norcoesports

RCC Partners With Feeding America To Host Food Distribution 


Riverside City College partnered with Feeding America Riverside, San Bernardino (FARSB) in hosting a food distribution on Friday, May 29. With the help of RCC and community volunteers, the FARSB team provided more than 1,000 families with nonperishable food boxes and fresh produce.

RCC Awarded NSF Grant to Create Cyberpreneur Program

 
Riverside City College was awarded a three-year, $299,974 grant from the National Science Foundation to create a Cyberpreneur certificate program. The Applied Technology Education grant provides funding to educate students in cybersecurity and entrepreneurship to meet the cybersecurity needs of small- and medium-sized businesses

Political Science Major Elected to Serve as RCCD Student Trustee

Ivan Hess, a student at Riverside City College, has been elected as Riverside Community College District 2020-21 Student Trustee. Hess, a Political Science major, earned 61 percent of the online votes. He will begin his term after the last day of this semester. Hess replaces Jorge Zavala, a student at Moreno Valley College. 

 

Fall 2020 Semester Update


Lecture classes will be held ONLINE.

Career Technical Education, STEM and the Arts courses that require practicum, lab or a performance component will be offered in a hybrid modality and requirements of physical and social distancing will be enforced.

Fall 2020 class schedule will be available online and in MyPortal/WebAdvisor on June 15.

Priority registration begins on July 6.
