WAWA News
Unfortunately due to COVID-19 and the current social distancing restrictions, the planned event celebrating 100 years of Women in Local Government in WA was put on hold. The WAWA's are still planning to hold an event to celebrate this amazing achievement and milestone, with further details coming soon.

We are in the process now of getting a diary put together for our members and would love to include you in the production! All we need is a high resolution profile picture or images of you at work, in the community, in your shire/town or city. If you could email that to us for inclusion in the WAWA diary we would greatly appreciate it.

This need to be sent to us no later than Monday 1st June, or even before 9:00am on Tuesday the 2nd of June. Please email algwawa@outlook.com. We are running to a strict deadline and need your images to celebrate women in Local Government.

WAWA Presidents Message
President Karen Wheatland

I trust that you are all keeping well and are all safe during the Covid-19 crisis. We are going through unprecedented times and its made us operate in a way that is not too familiar to any of us.

It’s been a trying time, full of rates reviews, stimulus packages, welfare and survival. Protecting our community’s has been paramount and the onus has been on survival mostly as this is affecting everyone in ways that we have not seen since the wartime. Keep on working together and being vigilant because this is not over.

I commend the work that each and every one of you is putting in, we are all in this together. Lastly please send us in your stories of any Covid-19 happenings. We would love to hear from you.

WA Women's Hall of Fame
On the 8th March 2020, a delegate of WAWA committee members were invited to attend the WA Women's Hall of Fame induction at the Governor's house.

We are so pleased to announce that Cr Elizabeth Clapham was formally recognised as the first woman elected to Local Government in WA and was added to the Honour Roll in recognition of this amazing achievement.

It was fitting that on the 10th anniversary of the Women's Hall of Fame, we were there to celebrate 100 years of Women in Local Government in Western Australia.

National Reconciliation Week
Consistant with this year's theme of #InThisTogether for National Reconciliation Week, we would like to acknowledge the wonderful work of WAWA Member Brooke O'Donnell highlighting the City of Kalamunda's Reconciliation Action Plan and what reconciliation means to her.

International Women's Day
Prior to the COVID-19 restrictions, our WAWA members joined community members and other Women from Local Government at a wonderful morning tea, celebrating International Women's Day together at City of Cockburn.

The event had a great turn out, and the guest speaker Marissa Verna from Bindi Bindi Dreaming was very inspirational and moving. Thanks to all that attended.
