Update for SA harness racing participants
I hope this finds you all well.
As we work through the turmoil created by COVID-19 the time has arrived where we find that we now cannot properly sustain the three race meeting per week schedule.
Consequently, racing will return to two meetings per week from this point onward. This being effective from this coming weekend.
Given the race dates for June had already been set at three meetings per week we have, after discussions with Sky Racing, agreed that racing throughout June will be Saturday/Tuesday. However from 1st July onward racing will revert to our historic Saturday/Monday structure.
The revised schedule is as follows: -
• Saturday 30th May– Globe Derby Park
• Tuesday 2nd June – Globe Derby Park
• Saturday 6th June – Globe Derby Park
• Tuesday – 9th June – Globe Derby Park
• Saturday – 13th June – Globe Derby Park
• Tuesday – 16th June – Globe Derby Park
• Saturday – 20th June – Globe Derby Park
• Tuesday – 23rd June – Globe Derby Park
• Saturday 27th June – Globe Derby Park
• Tuesday 30th June – Globe Derby Park
The Racing Office will advise you about nomination deadlines for this week by SMS shortly.
We apologise for the disruption caused as a consequence of these changes, but it is imperative we provide sound race fields to ensure continuity of wagering on our racing product.
Finally, I would very much like to thank everyone for the co-operation and assistance shown during these very testing and unprecedented times.
Hopefully, all the restrictions regarding attendance at race meetings can be lifted soon. But until this occurs we seek your continued observance of the COVID-19 protocols.
Good luck this coming week.

Kind Regards
Ross Neal

MIDNIGHT PROWLER (8) ideal draw for a horse that is best suited to come with one run at the finish.

RACE 2: HYGAIN FIBER PROTECT PACE
BELLA SOFIA (2) drawn to be prominent, racing in fine form, should be competitive at the finish.
MACKALAN (5) used the sprint lane and was too strong last start, wont get that run but must be considered.
UNCLE LEO (7) start is becoming an issue, but if on best behaviour will shake the life out of this.
MAGIC TRUMP (8) racing in the best form of its life, with an ideal draw, cant be overlooked.

RACE 3:  TAB PACE
OUT OF CHARACTER (1) ideal draw in barrier one and racing consistent, must be considered in exotics.
STRONGNBOLD (3) has been close in all four starts since racing in SA and looks to have a stranglehold on this race.
JAGGED SHADOW (5) racing with no luck in its recent outings, if its luck was to change, has the ability to figure in the finish.

WEEROONA BOY (8) ideal draw for a horse that has been consistent and capable of winning if race is run to suit.

RACE 5: SA BOTRA MEMBERS TROTTERS MOBILE

NOTICE TO TRAINERS

VETERINARY CERTIFICATES
________________________________________

The purpose of this notice is to advise trainers that veterinary certificates which have been completed on the basis of a conversation or discussion with the veterinarian, will not be accepted by the HRSA Racing Office. It is a requirement that the horse has been physically examined by a veterinarian, if the trainer is looking to have the standard stand down period reduced or the scratching fee removed.
Recently, the HRSA Racing Office has received certificates that have been generated based on a conversation with the veterinarian, either by phone or at another location outside of their training facility. HRSA Racing Office and the Stewards want to make it perfectly clear the Veterinary Certificates completed in the above manner will not be suitable to have a scratching bar reduced or the scratching fee removed. Also, it will be a requirement for the certificate to stipulate the veterinarian has examined the horse and it was not fit to race on a particular day, due to the ailment, and it will be ready to resume in the time frame the veterinarian feels appropriate.
All future certificates need to be completed in the manner stipulated above, if not the HRSA Racing Office may disregard the certificate supplied. Stewards acknowledge that most trainers and veterinarians provide adequate information, in the appropriate fashion, however would ask that all trainers ensure that the above directive be adhered to and any certificate supplied is based on a physical examination.

TRIALS
Whilst trials have resumed they are to be treated as a “closed event”.
The resumption of trials was based around keeping the number of participants down to a minimum, attendance is only permitted by the trainers of horses engaged and one assistant only.
When Gawler conducted the first set of trials on the 17th of May, everyone complied with the requirement, however when Globe Derby ran their trials we had to ask numerous people (who should know better) to please leave the premises, which includes the area around “Normans Gate”.
Trials continue to be a “Closed Event,” so HRSA and the Stewards would ask that only required personnel are on course, until such time as the Government advise otherwise.

BRANDS

Please ensure the brands of horses are clipped.
As we move from the summer months towards the winter period a horses coat will lengthen and reading the brand of a horse can become difficult.
It is a requirement of all trainers that under AHRRule 94(3) the area surrounding the brand is to be kept clipped.

Policy Changes

As we prepare for life after Covid-19, HRSA, as SA’s harness racing regulator, needs to ensure that the industry in the state is best positioned to meet the challenges moving forward.
While we are constantly looking to grow and enhance our product, we nonetheless need to ensure that we continue to challenge costs and reduce industry overhead wherever possible.
Consequently, HRSA have embarked on a series of procedural changes that will create greater organisational and economic efficiencies within our organisation. Two changes advised are: -
  1. Race Nominations
Effective 1st July 2020 all racing nominations must be made by way of HarnessWeb.
In making this determination HRSA is mindful of time occupied by Racing Office staff in dealing with telephone calls relating to nominations, which on many occasions, are unnecessary with the time involved in dealing with these matters being considerable.
We understand that these changes represent a significant shift for some who have not previously used the HarnessWeb portal. However, should anyone require assistance is setting up a HarnessWeb account, including being shown how to navigate the site, and how to nominate, then please contact the HRSA office and we will assist you with the transition.
Note: It is important that when nominating for more than one race at a meeting that you preference the most desirable race. This greatly assisting when fields are being drawn.
  1. On-Line Scratching’s
Effective immediately, trainers wishing to scratch a horse from an engagement at a race meeting can do so through the HarnessWeb portal.
Previously this facility was only available prior to the close of nominations, however is now available up until acceptance time for a race meeting.
Trainers also now have the ability to scratch a horse online after the fields are released up until 9am on the day of the race. Any late scratchings will need to be made by contacting a Steward or the Racing Office as per the current policy.
This change will provide trainers with the ability to better manage their processes without the requirement to attempt to contact the Stewards or the Racing Office.
