The Week That Was: Jesse Dayton & Furnace Record Pressing
We got all Jesse down at the Furnace plant, ya dig?
Mon. May 25 - We kicked back on the porch with a tall glass of ice cold lemonade and enjoyed the Memorial Day holiday with a rebroadcast of Jim and Patrick's recent appearance on the all-out great You Should Check It Out podcast, hosted by Intern John! Dig it!
Tue. May 26 - We checked in with listener favorite Jesse Dayton, an outlaw country musician from Austin TX. We had a chat about meditation, livestream shows, the amazing Gimme Country radio show he hosts and a heaping helping of other topics. And you gotta, gotta hear his story about a night out with Lemmy. Yes, that Lemmy.
Wed. May 27 - In the second part of a chat with Jesse Dayton, we touched on the time he filled in for Billy Zoom in X, working on his memoirs, his upcoming record Gulf Coast Sessions, thrash metal, Waylon Jennings and whole bunch of other cool stuff.
Thur. May 28 - A while back, Jim & Patrick got to take a tour of Furnace Record Pressing in Alexandria VA, with Eric Astor, president and CEO, as their guide. Enjoy this journey of the mind and learn something about how music gets to your ears. What are you waiting for? Start learning, peoples!

We sit down with president and CEO Eric Astor, who talks about how he went from getting his first 7-inch record made as a teenager to opening a 50,000-square-foot, state-of-the art plant. On Deck: A Dulli Primer & New Music
An extra dose of Routledge as June gets under way.
Mon. June 1 - The amazing Steven Routledge slips into the hosting chair on Monday, giving us an overview of the work (covers, specifically) of Greg Dulli, best known for his work with Afghan Whigs and The Twilight Singers.
Tue. June 2 - It's new music time (where the heck did May go, anyway?) and Patrick is up first with his two picks from the month gone by.
Wed. June 3 - Jim culls cuts from his always amazing new music playlist. What gems will he unearth from the month of May? Only one way to find out.
Thur. June 4 - New music picks from our interns have quickly become a staple of Rockin' the Suburbs and Thursday they will deliver their much-anticipated picks.
Fri. June 5 - Listener new music picks round out the week and if they are anything like last month, boy oh boy is this going to be a jam-packed pod.

 I live in … Falun, Sweden.
I work at … a family-owned firm that specializes in helping people close down their dormant companies. One of my work titles is Liquidator, by far the coolest. Any questions?
I discovered “Rockin’ the Suburbs” … in a search for Matthew Sweet interviews. I found your episodes from 2017. I've listened to the podcast ever since.
My favorite episodes are … the ones with The Mr. Patty on the road to the Bourbon and Beyond festival. When you create the Suburbs Pod episodes Hall of Fame, these episodes should be the first to be inducted. Already looking forward to more episodes of The Mr Patty on the road once the global crisis is over.
My record collection is … well, I read that anyone applying for employment at Amoeba Records must have at least 10,000 records in their collection. Let's just say I won't be applying for a place there anytime soon, since I'm about 9,000 records shy of that number.
The last concert I saw was … on March 7. I had the privilege to attend the Ash concert at Debaser in Stockholm. It was a great gig, and while having our after-concert burger, singer Tim Wheeler stepped in to the small fast food place and ordered a fish burger! He spent 10 minutes chatting to us before getting back to the tour bus to start the trip to Oslo, Norway, for the next stop on the tour.
I am drinking … beer from my favorite brewery in the UK, Adnams Brewery from Southwold, Suffolk.
My favorite basketball team is … well, a few years ago I went to a Miami Heat game and that's really the only proper pro basketball game I've ever been to. I bought a couple of Miami Heat socks from the club shop, which I still wear. Does this even remotely qualify as having a favorite basketball team?
My favorite English soccer team is … Ipswich Town FC, but as it happens, we're having a short break from Premiership football. It's only lasted 20 years so far and we're now in the third division, but give us another 20 years and we'll surely be back where we belong!

Well, these are the last days of May...
... and it's a good time to pause and breathe in the glory that are the first five studio albums by Stony Brook, New York's finest export, Blue Oyster Cult. Between 1972 and 1977, the band's co-managers Murray Krugman and (more notably) Sandy Perlman, producing this five-fecta (Blue Öyster Cult, Tyranny and Mutation, Secret Treaties, Agents of Fortune and Spectres) of triple-guitar splooge, honing it into something sinister, alluring and custom fit for the FM dial.
Countless American teens cruised the suburbs with BOC snaking out of the tinny speakers of their Dodge Darts, destroying brain cells and searching for the dark heart of the night. You can still hear the thrumming of that heart to this day. You may have a little more trouble rounding up a vintage Dart, though.
Without further ado, dig into this playlist, which serves up the prime cuts from those five magical platters, scooped out and served up by Patrick, who just may have spent a night or two blasted in the back seat, sinking deeper and deeper into the oily depths of Blue Oyster Cult.

Friday New Releases: New Platter Mania!
Slowly, slowly, slowly, carefully, carefully, carefully. This is how we must proceed in these precarious times. But when it comes to grabbing new releases, you should open up the throttle and jam, peoples. Grab your credit card and wield it like a weapon, slashing across the internet and ordering up a stack of new release platters. Some good choices are below.
Nicole Atkins - Italian Ice (Single Lock)
Drawing inspiration from the Jersey Shore but recorded in Muscle Shoals, this multi-genre album touches on torch songs, Americana, soul - all of that and more. It’s pop music with heft.
Jimmy Buffett - Life on the Flip Side (Mailboat)
Several years ago, a friend took his young family to a Buffett show, thinking they were in for a night of wholesome entertainment. Things didn’t go as planned. No, this Key West resident has built a career — and an empire — on an appeal to stressed-out suburban types to cut loose once in a while. An island of pleasures — warm sunshine, refreshing ocean air, smooth cocktails, high-grade reefer and easy-listening music — awaits. There’s no going to shows for the foreseeable future, so Parrotheads, this new album will need to be your fix.
Lady Gaga - Chromatica (Interscope)
Speaking of things people won’t be doing anytime soon, America’s dance floors are closed. So while you won’t hear Gaga’s new beats in the club, you can crank up this album at home and go nuts (we assume everyone has a working disco ball in their domicile, right?)
The Reflectors - First Impression (Burger)
Our first impression of the debut from this Los Angeles band is that it is first-rate power pop, along the lines of the Undertones and the Nerves (to cite two bands who produced some pretty perfect music). It makes our hearts swell to know that some kids out there are keeping this style of rock alive.
