Volunteers Week is this week and want to thank all the amazing volunteers that have been supporting our work and the work of other VCSE organisations in Milton Keynes – all year round and particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic: follow our blog and social media for updates.

Community Action: MK Volunteering Programme, what we've been up to...
Since 20th March we have had 710 people sign up to volunteer and have matched 218 people to various roles across MK. We have been in a wonderful position where we have more volunteers than roles available. Read more

We collaborate with a number of organisations supporting the work of volunteers across the UK, with help from the umbrella bodies such as NAVCA and NCVO, both of which bring the sector together and provide a suite of useful resources for organisations like ours. This year we have all come together to create a #CheersToTheVolunteers video to say thank you to all the amazing volunteers who are supporting our communities. You can view the video here.

Free digital communications support for charities
Media and marketing experts are offering their time and expertise for free to help charities meet the digital communications challenges they are facing during the COVID-19 outbreak. The support is being offered through the Media Trust’s Volunteer Platform. Read more

Safeguarding Children Training delivered via Microsoft Teams
Acorn Early Years Foundation have been running virtual training sessions for Designated Safeguarding Lead, Designated Safeguarding Lead Knowledge and Skills Update and Accredited Safer Recruitment training via Microsoft Teams. Book here

NEW PROJECT: Collaborative Action Groups
We are launching a new programme that will establish a way of working across the city in the long term. If you’re working in MK to support local residents at this time, however that might be, and you’re willing to share your knowledge and skills to help more people find the support they need, we’d love for you to join us. Gardening and Wellbeing

New pillars to be engraved at the Milton Keynes Rose
One pillar will be engraved for Volunteers’ Week (1 -7 June). The inscription on this pillar will read, ‘The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others – Mahatma Gandhi’.

Environmentally friendly electric cargo bikes coming to MK
MK Council is introducing 21 eCargo bikes to its vehicle fleet to help make council business travel more sustainable. The Council’s tree and highway inspectors will use the bikes as a greener way of getting around the borough. Read more

Astwoodand Hardmead Draft Neighbourhood Plan Consultation
Astwood and Hardmead Parish Council are consulting on the pre-submission draft of their Neighbourhood Plan for 6 weeks from Monday 1 June to Monday 13 July 2020 inclusive.

Castlethorpe Neighbourhood Plan
Castlethorpe Parish Council submitted the Modifications to the Castlethorpe Neighbourhood Plan to Milton Keynes Council on 27 April, 2020. Milton Keynes Council is now publicising the submitted Modifications until Friday 17th July 2020.
