Maintaining Your Water Wise Landscape
Many homeowners throughout Contra Costa County, and California for that matter, have replaced their water-thirsty lawns with water-wise landscaping. There are now many beautiful examples of water-wise residential gardens.

But having a new landscape requires learning a little about how to maintain it. How much should I water?  How do I keep out weeds? Is it time to cut back my perennials?  How much mulch should I install? These are just a few of the many questions posted on CCWD’s Maintaining Your Water-Wise Landscape Facebook Group.

This group was created to provide a forum for residents in Contra Costa County (and elsewhere) to get advice and to give advice on maintaining their water-wise landscapes. The group includes hundreds of local novice gardeners and many gardening experts. Discussions topics include choosing plants, installation techniques, pruning, irrigation installation and maintenance, watering practices and techniques, and much more. Not to mention, this is a great place to show off photos your own beautiful water-wise landscape.

How to Buy a Toilet
Like tennis shoes, there are so many models of toilets it’s difficult to know which one to choose. But now there is help. The Maximum Performance Testing (MaP) Laboratory is all you need to find that high quality toilet. You'll find buying tips, toilet ratings, and more. There are many options such as bowl height, bowl shape, rough-in dimension, flush type, handle location and most importantly MaP Score.  What is the MaP Score you ask?  Well, this independent testing lab evaluates the flushing performance and rates each model. The ratings are in “grams”. The higher the number, the better the flush performance. Toilets with scores of 600 or better will provide you with excellent performance.

So whether you have a toilet model in mind already or are just starting your research, check out the Maximum Performance Testing Laboratory for high quality toilets that are water wise.
